Hi All -

Was wondering how many of you have run into finding the trailer you've been looking for, but having to deal with "the dealer is asking way too much"?

We have been looking for a smaller Hi-Lo (for ease of storage on our side yard & towing) and it seems that the Hi-Lo's out here go faster than a dealer has time to clean them up (used units) and put them on their lots. Last week at a local Hi-Lo/Airstream dealer we found a 22' 1993 unit is pretty great shape.

The problem? Nada shows a high of around of $5900 and the dealer was asking $8995! We offered $6500 and were told "No Way!" After back & forth negotiations this past week, we have them down to $7500.

My husband & I are going back & forth trying to decide "how much" we want this trailer with "Are we gonna be ticked off if we feel we've paid too much?".

Anyone out there been thru this type of situation?????

Welcome to the economic world of Supply & Demand!  It doesn't really matter what the NADA or Blue Book value has - the higher the demand the higher the asking price.

If you do your homework and find that, in fact, there is a true demand for this specific type trailer, then dealers know about it and can ask the higher prices, knowing that someone will pay for it if they want it bad enough.

I have found that EVERYBODY selling campers asks way above the NADA value.  I guess they assume that even though the camper is 2 (or 4 or 10) years old, it has only been used a couple times so the value shouldn't drop too much.  For me, it got to the point where I was willing to drop an extra $1000 and get a brand new trailer with warranty.

What it all comes down to is what YOU are willing to pay for something.  What's it worth to YOU.  If you pay more than you feel comfortable paying, there will always be that little voice in the back of your head bugging you.

This is common with Hi-Lo's. They do not build a lot of them, and they are in high demand new and used. eBay prices can go way above book.

I spoke with a dealer that is having trouble getting new ones from the factory to put on his lot, he does have two smaller new ones in stock though.
