I'm trying to be on the level here!

Hey everybody:
A few years ago the DW and I were just sitting around when I picked up her ring of keys and the padlock she had just removed from a locker.  I inserted the shank of the lock through the key ring and snapped it shut.  The look on her face was one of total shock and disbelief as she uttered expletives I've not heard since boot camp and exclaimed "now just how the h##l am I gonna get that off!?"  :yikes:
I'm sure the answer to the following question is going to make me feel the same way she did when I slipped the key off the key ring and unlocked the padlock.
When I get our PUP I'd like to get some of those stick-on levels, but how do I know the PUP is level so the level will show level when the PUP is truly level?  If the PUP's on uneven ground when I stick the levels on, then it won't be truly level when I try to level it.  And how do I know if the spot where I stick the level is actually level with the floor of the PUP?  I can use a carpenters level on the tongue initially but that does'nt mean the tongue is level with the floor, or for that matter the edge of the body panel!  You with me so far?  My head hurts.
Thanks; Russ

I level my Niagara after popping the top. I take a carpenters level and place it on top of a side where the roof seal meets the sides. You can then use the tongue jack to level the trailer for and aft.. Do the same on the front or back side and raise a wheel if needed to level it side ways........

Level it from the floor with a carpenters level before you stick the permanent ones on.
It may require setting it up in the driveway and adjusting it until you get the permanent levels on.

When I put them on my PU, I leveled it side to side with a level on the A frame in front of the battery box/propane tank to get it close. Then unhitched from the TV and leveled front to rear. Then poped up enough to fit the level on all four edges between the top and bottom and used the stabilizers to do the final adjustments. (I know, I know, your not supposed to use the stabilizers to LEVEL the camper, but you only hold the weight there in that poped up position for a minute or two. Besides if you are pretty carefull leveling across the A frame, you will end up only unweighting the suspension a little to obtain "perfect" level!)
Once you get it level, apply the bubbles. and Don't forget to take the weight OFF the stabilizers before cranking it the rest of the way up or back down!
Now all I have to do is back in, level it by the bubbles and set up!

I think those spirit levels will always be accurate because of gravity

And when you put the "stick on" levels on. DO NOT depend on the sticky stuff to hold them. A few hot days will have them sagging out of position. Screw them on and seal the screws.

IMHO, the stick on levels are not worth diddly-squat. As mike4947 mentioned, a couple of hours out in the sun, and they slide down the wall of the PU like a snail. I also found that over time even if I did attach them using the screw holes, the walls to the floor of the PU do not remain perpendicular to one another.

Best method for me is the old tried and true carpenter's level.

I place it on the floor of the PU and level in both directions.

I then can use it to level the picnic table and the camp stoves that I place on the picnic table.

Out of every method I have used over the years, this one has been the best.

I leveled the PU in the driveway with a 4 foot carpenters level back in April of 1999.  The little stick on levels are still in place and doing their job.  I mounted the one on the side under the patio light so that we could see it easily in the dark.  I centered the other one of the front of the PU.:)

Thanks everyone for the replies.  Looks like I should level it initially using a carpenter's level placed on the floor of the PUP then screw on the stickies.  I just dislike the thought of having to carry a level with me when I could screw it on and forget it.  Thanks again

If you screw them on, they "ain't" going to sag in the sun!
