As we prepare for our first trip...we were wondereing... after all your experiences, what would be the one item you wished you knew to take with you from the first outing?

BaysideBruce

It was NOT a thing, it was an attitude.  No matter what happens, next time you'll get it better.  Enjoy, relax and have fun.  Learn what you can from the people on the board, and from your own experience.  But the bottomline is enjoy and laugh with your mistakes!

BaysideBruce hit the most important one!

Just 1 item?...thats kind of tought. We Forgot the boards to level with on our first outing. Duct Tape would be a close 2nd, our roof vent cover blew off on the way to camp. Leaving us with just the screening, and it was supposed to rain. First aid tape and a cut off a tarp got us thru the weekend.

I have to vote for 2 items that are used together.  Pencil and paper to make a list of all the things you wish you would have brought along.:)

TXSTPARKNUT

I would have to say the fireplace lighter so I could light the pilot light on my water heater.  Shower shoes for the shower you will use that everyone in the park also uses. :yikes:  A mini mirror is also a good choice. Trash bags and paper towels are a must. Lighter fluid or wood starter blocks because sometimes starting a fire can be difficult. Camping out without a campfire will just not due ;)

Camping Coxes

Small child's play broom for sweeping out the trailer, dish towels and sponge/soap for dishes, separate towels for showering and for swimming, extra pillow for those "stuffed up nose" nights (DH had to sleep behind me propping me up so I could breathe -- whatta guy!), a good first aid kit (especially with kids and bikes/scooters/skateboards).  Most of all, a relaxed easy come, easy go attitude so you don't come unraveled when you mess up something.

Oh, a corkscrew!  You'd be amazed how many other campers don't have a corkscrew either when you really need one!

Now what the heck can you do with a corkscrew??? I can only think of one thing.  Oh! Of course!!!

The one item, huh? Just one?

I'd say that would prolly be the camper.

From experience, here are two things (sorry, couldn't narrow it down to just one):

1) Don't forget the KEY! Nothing like getting to a campsite and not being able to open your PU because everything you need is inside the PU and you have no key for it (and by the way, keeping the spare key INSIDE the PU doesn't help in this circumstance :swear: but since then we've learned to always store a spare key in our TV).

2) Don't forget bedding (linens, pillows, sleeping bags ... whatever your preference). Although you CAN get by without, if it's cold out you WILL hear it from the family if you are short on bedding! Trust me! Especially if your MIL is with you! :banghead:
