Hi everyone

Looking to buy a coleman popup. Thinking of one with the slide out and the potti/shower combo

Just wanted to know from people who have one of these if they have had any problems and did they find these options were worth it

Cheers

If you are looking for a new trailer, there isn't a Coleman PU any more.  Fleetwood makes the trailers that used to be called Coleman, but Coleman took them to court and Fleetwood can not use the name anymore.  I have a 1999 Coleman/Fleetwood trailer with the shower and cassette potty.  I don't have a slide out.  I looked for 3 years for a PU that I could pull with a minivan that had a shower.  I would not want a PU without a shower and I like the cassette potty much better than the porta potty I used to have.  It is easier to dump and sits at a normal toilet height.  I have not had any problems with the shower/cassette potty portion of my trailer.:)

Al:  We have a Coleman by Fleetwood camper and we have the cassette toilet/indoor shower combo.  The toilette is a Thetford C-4.  It's quite amazing.  We wouldn't have a rig without them both.  The indoor shower is small, but if you're shorter than 6'4" you'll have no problems.  My only suggestion to you is to notice the differences between the rigs your consider with an access door to dump the toilet's cassette from the inside or the outside the rig.  Our rig has an inside access door only.  My rig has to be popped up and the sink moved out of the way to get to the access door.  If you get a rig with an access door for the toilet's cassette on the outside of the rig, then you can easily dump it at the black water dump station on the way out of a campground.  The outside door saves you an extra trip to the dump station or driving home with a full cassette.  P.S.:  The additional outside shower is good for hosing off dogs, feet, kids, etc.  Best of luck in your decisions, Scott

We have the Coleman Westlake that has the shower/toilet combo, but no slideout. I like having that option, because we really do use it.

I haven't had any problems with it and the shower does work well. Just remember to keep those showers short. Wet down, turn off water, lather up, rinse off.

My cassette potty also empties from the outside of the trailer.  I wouldn't want it any other way.:)

thanks everyone for your feedback. Never thought about the potti emptying from the outside but make sure I get one with that option

OC Campers

We also own a Westlake.  I love the potti/shower combo.  I personally have never used the shower for an adult but have used it many a time to bath my youngest kids.  It is sure nice knowing it is there if I ever need it.  The potty is also great.  No more midnite runs to the bathroom with the kids.

We do not have a slide out but sure wish we did.  I am hoping in the next year or so to upgrade to one of the new highwall popups (Niagra).  We have 5 people and a dog in our popup and at times it is a little crowded.  But I got a great deal on the Westlake so I can't complain.

We didn't consider the potty/shower to be a necessity when we were shopping for used trailers but the one we found was so equipt. We use it only at night. It sure beats walking to the potty house at 3 am.
Ours also empties from the out side although the holding tank capacity is rather small.
I also found the twisting and rocking of travel tends to seperate the caulking from the shower floor from the side walls of the shower/potty unit. Be sure to check it often for possible leaks.

My Bayside has the slide-out but not the potty/shower combo.  I love the added space (especially the floor space) that the slide-out gives us.  As for the shower/potty combo, I'd personally rather have the storage space.  We have a porta-potty we bought when the kids were little & we rarely use that.  Just one more thing to mess around with at the beginning & end of the trip.  We just head to the campground facilities.

Good luck on your search for the right camper!

Hello,

I am the first reply with both the potti/shower combo and the slideout.  I purchased a 2004 GTE Niagara last June.

In 2005 Fleetwood did not offer the floorplan with both those features in the Grand Tour line of PopUps.  If you wanted those features you had to buy a Highlander series, or from another manufacturer.

However, in 2006 the great floorplan is back!  It will return as the 2006 Americana Williamsburg.

I have to small kids, (4 and 6).  I cannot overemphasize the convenience and benefit of having an on-board inside potti/shower!  It has been alot of fun!  Just spent a week at the Grand Canyon in May, and this past weekend at Big Bear Lake in the local mountains!

BTW, Fleetwood has manufactured all Coleman Popups for over a decade.  The only difference now is that they don't currently have a Coleman sticker, (they may again at some future date - if you really like the sticker).  Also, when shopping, ignore the MSRP or the dealer's sticker price!  It's not at all unusual to purchase one for 20% to 25% less, even more at the RV shows, or clearance models.

We also have a Coleman Niagara Grand Tour Elite (2002).  The slideout opens so easily and really helps the inside space tremendously.  The inside potty is used a lot (empties via outside door), and the shower gets used often enough that we are glad we have it.

There is just my wife and I, with our 1-year old daughter.  We did have 2 large dogs for a while.  Without wasting, but not being too frugal, the on-board water tank and toilet (and battery) were fine for 4 days of dry camping, including 2 showers.

Now, it is time to sell it and move up to a bigger TT -- we have an RV slip on the house, and camp enough that we are ready to move up.  Will clean it and get it ready to sell quite soon.

(any interest in Sacramento, CA?)

New or used?

If used triple check the ABS roof on 1996 through 2003.5 Colemans.

Look for sagging, cracks and delamination.  Also check the outside edges of the roof, do they protrude off the edge?  Not good.

Be carefull   :)
