Welcome, Congrats on the new popup. thay are wonderful.
We are also in OC. Off the top of my head somewhere that has hook ups with in 2.5 hours, some of the san diego area parks you can find them here.

they have an online reservation site that lets you see each site and what is avail. on the dates you are. I think William Heise is one of the most favored, we have not yet had the chance to make it there but have stayed at lake jennings when we went to sea world. Also http://www.woodsvalley.com/ has had good reviews. Vail Lake in Temecula is another one that we have stayed many times and is very nice. One of the campgrounds in big bear has hook ups and the others up there are also nice, but I believe they have a ban on camp fires. Most of the beaches are booked up as you need to reserve tham 6 months in advance on reserve america. Another area in near iddlywild, or barton flats but I know they did have a fire near there recently. The latter of these ideas do not have hook ups. Hope this gives you a little bit to go on. If you find somewhere you think you may want to go to you could always post and someone may have been there and have a review for you.

OC Campers

Unfortunately, Orange County and few people do not go together.  When we lived in Fountain Valley one of our favorite weekend places was San Onofre SP-San Mateo loop.  They have a "trailer only" area that has water and electric.  The sites are pretty good sized with paved rv pads.  trees separate each site and the restrooms are nice and private.  It is hard to get in during the summer but sometimes you could get in on a cancellation.  You need to go thru Reserve America to get reservations.

Another nice place (maybe not in the summer) is Vail Lake resort in Temecula.  Check out the SC Campers rally (Trick or Treat in Temecula) under the Rally forum.  If you have kids this is a lot of fun!!

You could also try Serrano up in Big Bear.  They have hookup sites and is near the lake.  Also reservable thru Reserve America.

You are most welcome and I also second Jacqui said about san mateo, it is one of our favorite local stays but with kids helping you think I somehow forgot about it. We have stayed there the week after christmas in the hookuop section 2 years in a row and i am sure it will be 3 this year.

AAA publishes a map named "Southern & Central California Camping".  They claim to list more than 650 campgrounds and there are lots of places listed that we had not known about, even though we've been camping in the area for about 30 years.  We find their information to be quite accurate.  They also publish a booklet called California and Nevada Camp Book, that gives some of the same information in a different format.  One of the main reasons we camp is to experience quiet and solitude.  That usually means midweek dry camping, desert in the winter, beach and Sierra in the summer.  You're going to love it.

Howdy Neighbor,

I live next door in LB, and am sitting here at my desk in HB!  Congradulations on the new PU.  You probably purchased your new PU in Stanton, Danny in the service department is GREAT!

The AAA map is the easiest solution.  Every campground and location all on one map.  I let my five year old throw a dart at it once to determine where we should camp!  Didn't work, we should have camped about thirty miles West of Catalina Island.  However, you will also want to get a book called California Camping by Tom Stienstra.  Every campground and RV park in the state is listed and rated, with descriptions and amenities.

The lakes north of Santa Barbara are nice, but might take a little more than 2.5 hours.  Of course you have all the state beaches!  I'm headed into the SanBernardino mountains myself this afternoon!  By Lake Arrowhead!

Have Fun!

Once it cools down a bit don't miss a chance to visit Joshua Tree!  Jumbo Rocks campground is very comfortable in Sept.

A little further afield is Mojave National Preserve, Mid Hills campground is at 5500' and is pretty remote.  We were there in June and nearly had the place to ourselves.  Campsites 28 and 29 have great views of the but are out of site from other sites.
