Fleetwood changes 2006 Niagara? (rant?)

Greetings all:

I read this [post=104542]Post[/post] from curtseawa and at first I was elated thinking it meant all the grey water now runs out at one place near the back, but after reading posts on other PUP sites I'm confused more than ever, and if Fleetwood did what I think they did, and mods can't fix it they have just lost a customer.

If I understand correctly the "new & improved" Niagara for 2006 will have permanently installed holding tanks for black and grey water.  That would mean in order to empty tanks you would have to break camp, hook up TV, drive to the nearest dump station, empty tanks, drive back, drop PUP, level and set up everything again!

I haven't a clue how a PUP works except what I've read here but this sounds so ridiculous that I must have misunderstood this.  We decided on a Niagara five years ago and are just now in a position to buy a 2006 come January, but if I have to go through all that to empty tanks mid-week forget it!

Someone please tell me I'm WRONG!

I called the local dealer on this issue and he doesn't even have the 2006 literature and his first load of trailers doesn't have a Niagara. But he says they'll still have cassette toilets so the black water tank issue is mute. We talked about onboard gray water tanks and both agreed there's not enough CCC to accomidate one other than a small shower one like Jayco uses.

RustyOne, I agree and will not tell you that you are wrong. Holding tanks on a popup, other than portable ones are ridiculous to say the least.....

OC Campers

If you have a grey water holding tank, it's non big deal. You just hook a blue tote up to it and drain into the tote.

OC Camper already mentioned using portable grey water tanks.

If Fleetwood did indeed mount permanant grey/black tanks it won't prevent you from staying in your campsite as long as you want, without tearing down.

You will simply do what every other TT, ClassA, ClassC, 5th Wheel camper does.  They connect to portable tanks and drag the tanks to the dump station, not the whole RV!

The addition of a holding tanks actually will make your stay a lot easier. I'm not sure how large the holding tanks are, but would venture to guess they are bigger than the little tote tanks. Be that as it may, why in the world would you fold up to empty it? You simply continue to camp they way you always have, using a toter if needed.

The best part here is, you now have an option. If you are only there for a weekend, the holding tanks should be more than enough for your needs. I'm full timing in my Hybrid, have 30 gal holding tanks for each the black and the gray, and I DO NOT have a sewer hookup, so I use the tote to empty both tanks...once per week usually (the black tank I can actually squeeze 2 weeks out of it if needed).

But with only a couple nights on a weekend camping trip, you just use the holding tanks, and on the way out of the campground on Sunday afternoon, you stop at the dump station. That sure beats the heck out of hauling tote tanks once or twice per weekend! And should anytime you find yourself using too much water, then you dig out the old toter!

I wouldn't mind have a grey water holding tank, but I like having my cassette for the black water.  I wouldn't want to mess with the black water any more than I have to.  The cassette is easy to handle and dump.:)

the portable tanks are correct, we are dry camping (well almost) water only, next weekend and I'm bringing my tote for grey water (JIK)as we use 3x as much with showers, dishes etc, but have always had full h/u so didin't care. at pismo I only had to dump it once(the potty) in between and I had several people use it .

so I'm assuming you all only do W/E sites or Dry camping only??  if you have a sewer hookup at your site you hook right up to it. one of the reason I went from the 2000 niagara to the hybrid was to get rid of the cassette and have a real bathroom.

actually the best of both worlds would be for the tanks to detach and become portable..

The holding tank has increased 2 gallons in size from the cassette. 8 gallons from 6 gallons, I believe.
