OK, we're new to this. (Don't even have the popup yet)

We just bought an 04 Rockwood 2280 (GVWR 2975, Dry 1845, hitch weight 255), and plan to tow it with our 98 Toyota Sienna (with towing package 3500lb).

As the trailer has brakes, the community seems to agree on the Prodigy as the choice for controller.

However, I don't know what we need hitch-wise. Do we 'need' a WDH? If so, what about sway? Seems each thing we add keeps jacking up the price, but I want to tow safely and not kill my van either.

As we're in Colorado, we'll be doing mountain passes (slowly) like Rocky Mtn National Park, etc. That's why we chose a lighter trailer.

All input is appreciated!
Thanks!

Does your TV recommend or require a wight distributing hitch?  Does Rockwood allow you to use a weight distributing hitch?  You should have sway control, installed it shouldn't be more than $100.  Better safe than sorry.:)

The Toyota manual gives limits of 350 w/standard hitch, 525lb with WD hitch.

Don't have the popup manual yet.  We just got it on ebay (new old stock from a dealer out of state).

Thanks.

I own an 03 2280 and I will share some things about mine I have noticed. This trailer is very tounge heavy. I have the shower option. Never have had a sway problem. I tow with an 02 Ram 1500, so take my no sway comment factored with a full size truck. You most defiently want the brakes working, even in my truck would not want tv brakes only. And finally ,good choice in pop up's. I think you will enjoy, I know we have.
