How does one easily remove the hub caps without breaking them?  Whats the little wire ring I can see through the opennings?

That's the $ 64,000 question.

I own a 2001 Mesa with the standard rims, and was considering adding the decreative wheel covers to mine.

I read on the PU forums that these things had the tendency to crack during the removal, and if you were lucky enough to get them off without breaking them, well the next problem was keeping them on the wheel once they were removed. Methinks that wire ring that you see is the tension spring that holds the cover in to the wheel.

So in short, I decided against adding them to my PU.

Sorry I can't offer you better information than this.

I had wheel covers on our 01 Niagara..Lasted about a year before cracking, so I have left them off...I have heard that the four cover 13" sets at Wally World  for under 20 bucks work a lot better.... Spray paint them white and have two spares.....

Just got home for a weekend trip to So Jersey (w/ camper) from RI.  Great trip everything worked :D     After reading your replys,  I when out and pulled really hard on the covers throught the opennings,  one came off,  the other stated to move and then I  work it off using the cut away on the end of the provided lug wrench.  It was very dirty under them.  I will clean off the areas,  apply some thin clear grease and re-install them.  Then,  I'll see if they come off easier.  If not they are going to remain OFF..   Maybe I can find an alternative that is more coopertive.

Thanks for the reply's
