We are planning to buy a 2000 Coleman Mesa.  It seems okay, we have not seen it yet, gonna drive 2 hrs to see it.  They are asking 6000.00  It has AC, bike rack, not sure of other extras.  Is the Coleman Mesa line a good Popup?  What should I be aware of.  We are somewhat experienced, owned a 93 Starcraft Starmaster that was damaged and subsequently totaled by our insurance company during our relo from FL to PA.  Now it's time to shop again.  The Coleman Mesa they are selling did not seem to include hot water heater or shower, which I kind of thought came with that series.  Can anyone confirm that and is this a good buy?

Thank you in advance for your response.

As you will see by my sig line, I currently own a 2001 Mesa that has the same exact layout as the 2000 MY.

It's a good camper with a lot of storage room (73 SF), front storage area, tip-out galley, 12 foot box,  and LP indoor and HP outdoor stoves, two king size beds, sleeps seven comfortably (states 9 in the brochure) 20 gallon under floor fresh water tank, 25 amp converter/ charger, access to fridge with roof down, one piece door system with stepper door, and access to the front storage area from inside the PU just to name a few standard items.

The Mesa will be a fairly heavy PU when loaded up. Mine weighs in at close to 3,100 # loaded up for the trip.

The Mesa only came with a water heater with the outside shower as an option, and was installed by the dealer in the front storage bin if the buyer purchased it.

Two items concerning this model....... it will have the infamous ABS roof on it, and a front storage area that had a tendency to leak. Check the roof very closely for sagging, bowing, cracking, (esp.under the awning bag) blistering, delamination, and roof seal failure. Check for water damage to the floor area in the area of the front bin access door.

I paid $ 6,600.00 for my used Mesa back in 2003, and it came equipped with a 15 K Coleman AC unit, 16 K furnace, 6 gallon water heater with outside shower, stock awning, 1.9 CF Dometic 3-way fridge, vanity mate, and camper caddie just to name a few items. All the connections for the plumbing, a spare propane tank, and gray water totes were included also.

I was able to knock down his original asking price of $ 7,500.00 based upon knowing about the roof and storage leaking issues with this model.

All in all I love the camper.... it had everything I was looking for in a PU. I have not expierenced any of the roof problems or storage leaks on mine..... yet. But it is always stored in my attached garage, keeping it out of the direct sunlight, heat, and rain off of the unit.

If you like, send me a e-mail to hoppy5@bellsouth.net, and I can attach the 2000 Coleman sales brochure with the layout and all the vital stats if you like.

  Hope this helps.

Hi,

Last year we purchased a 1999 Mesa.  It has everything but AC.  The roof was replaced by the prior owner and has an extra support bar.  I love the Mesa.  I cannot say enough good things about it and I think it has one of the best layouts of all the popups.

Paid:  $5,000 in 2004

Outdoor shower
hot water
heat
screen room
caddy
bunk end plug in lights
shelf added to one bunk
3 way fridge
double propane tanks

I do not own a Mesa, but I do own a Coleman Sequoia that is 20 years old!!!  Yes 20 years(has the same ammenetes as the Mesa) old and being as we do not cook or smoke in the pop up it is just like new.  We have been to Florida many times towing it and went as far as Cedar Point.  The Coleman pop up will last if you take care of it (keep hubs greased, vacuum it, and wash it.  I believe the Mesa is a good investment.

My 2 cents worth

The water heater and outside shower were options on the trailer.  Have you gone to see the trailer yet?  If so how did it look?  The price seems hight to me.  You can get into a new PU for just a little more money.  My dealer, Rhone's Travel Trailers in Cogan Station PA, sells the 2005 Allegiance for just a little over $7000 (that was the price earlier in the season, it may be lower now that the 2006 are coming out).  What ever you end up doing let us know and good luck.:)

We did it and decided to buy the Mesa.  We paid 5800.00 for it.  He was actually asking for 6500.00  It comes with the following:

Carrier AC
Furnace
Nice 3 bike roof rack - Yakima
"Add a room" screen house
3 way fridge
dual lp gas
Brake controller (how do I install this - he gave me the controller from inside his vehicle)

Immaculate condition, looks like they did not use it much.  They claim they used it 6 times total.  There is a couple of dents on the step door because someone was not careful opening it and there was a rock underneath.

Looks like no leaks in the roof and storage area.  Did not see any signs of leaks anywhere, nor did we see any warp in the bedroom pullouts and underneath the trailer looking up at the floor.  We scrubbed the roof last night with Simply Green and it looks great -- was dirty from being outside.  The only concern is that we saw something in the rear part of the roof that looks like a blister, or some hardware wanting to come through.  It's faint, but there, and we will keep an eye on it.  Not sure what a "blister" is, looks more like a screw deep under that's trying to come through.  We'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks for your help!

Congratulations!  I hope you love your Mesa as much as we like ours.   Our biggest complaint is just a lack of time to get out camping lately! ;>

I'll echo Vicki and Bill here! I was happy with our '00 Cheyenne, the wife wanted the Mesa.

Our '03.5 Mesa is a very nice camper!
