Hi Everyone

Just wondering if folks have changed to synthetic engine and trans oil to tow you TT. or have you stayed with conventional oil. If you stayed with regular oils, or gone with synthetic, did you change the viscosity of the fluids due to an increase demand from towing

Cheers

I use full synthetic in my truck. I use AMSOIL products. AMSOIL universal transmission fluid (much higher breakdown temperatures), AMSOIL 75W/140 fluid in my rear differential. AMSOIL 15/40 Diesel certified oil in the engine (12 qts).

On my gas truck that I have for sale I used Mobil 1 in the engine and the AMSOIL products on the rest since I bought the truck new.

You can get a Mobil 1 oil change at WalMart for about $32 for a 5 QT fill. Which isn't too bad when you consider they get $4.77 per quart for just the oil.

The only viscosity change I did was for the rear diff. My manual says if you are going to tow heavy, run the 75W/140. I know towing my popup or even my hybrid doesn't qualify as heavy but I changed anyway. I don't use synthetics for towing purposes, I have run synthetics for years, even before towing.

1993 Geo Metro xFI with 190,000 miles, I sold the car for the engine. They wanted the engine for their Metro which had a lot less miles. This was the 3-cylinder engine.

Each to their own, but I use them.
