I have a brand new  2005 Palamino yearling pop up. i was wondering if anyone else has one and if they are having problems with it. We have trouble getting hot water heater piolot light to work and camper leaks near the sink and outside . I already hhave water damage to the cabinets inside of it from ourlaast camping trip also the lift system doesnt work proprerly. I  am taking it back to the dealer we bought it from to have it repaired but I was wondering if this is just a bad camper or if its the brand. The only pop ups I ever knew about were colemans.

Palomino isn't one of the most popular, but they make a good camper. We have one from mid 80's and believe it is well made. I have seen more modern Pal's, and believe they are still well-made. Don't worry...if you have a good dealer, you should be taken care of.

You do not stand alone trying to get the pilot to light on the WH.

This is probably the number one question asked by "first-time" users of water heaters. (How come I can't get the pilot to light?)

It takes time and a little patience before the air is purged out of that little pilot gas line, since the orifice is rather small at the pilot. I suggest purging out all the air in the PU's main gas line even before trying to light the pilot on the WH, furnace, or the fridge. Purge the air out of the main line using one of the stove burners. The burner will remove a lot of air out of the line, since it has the largest amount of draw.

After the main gas line is primmed, it still may take a couple of minutes to get gas to the pilot of the WH, furnace, or the fridge.

I have been camping using PU's for over fifteen years, and it still takes me time to light the pilot........ even using a few "tricks" that I have learned over the years. There are methods to "by-pass" lighting the pilot and lighting the main burner first, but I do not recommend a "first-timer" using these "other" methods. I dont want you ending up looking like Wyllie Coyote in the Roadrunner cartoons, lighting a match in the Acme TNT Company.  Maybe the dealer's tech will show you how they do it..... but not I.

BTW, my first PU was a 1978 Palomino, and I had absolutely no problem with it. I gave this PU to my DD and SIL, and they use it to this very day. As a matter of fact, they are going out in it at the end of the month.

IMHO, Palomino makes a very good unit that is affordable and reliable.

I'm sure you will be happy with it after the "bugs" are taken care of.
