PU in a hanger!

We had a problem!  Our PU got soaked during our last and final camping trip of the season.  We did a wet take down and opened it up again as soon as we got home.  There it's sat, since Columbus Day weekend, waiting for clear weather long enough and dry enough so that we can close it up for the winter.  It wasn't to be, seems like it's rained ever since.

I've been thinking about trying to set it up indoors somewhere, but where can you do that?  The local grass strip airport just down the road from us has been closed since July in order to put in a paved runway.  It should be opening again in Dec.  All the planes had been removed during the construction period.  I called the owner today.  He said it was an unusual request, but we could do it.  Just got done landing our PU in one of his hangers!!  We were even able to set out the awning and porch carpet.  Hopefully, we'll be able to get it by this weekend!  But at least we know it's finally drying out, and snow is forcast for this evening.  Got it in there just in time.

What a creative solution!!  Most impressive.   Since the awning and rug are out, maybe you should camp out one more night!

I'm lucky ~ I finally have a garage big enough to raise the roof and pull the canvas out if I need to.  AND there's still enough room to park the TV next to the PU without being squished!  Now, if it only had heat  :D

I think a gift certificate to one of your finest restaurants in the area is in order for that airport owner.  What a nice guy!  :#

Dave I am glad that it worked out for you.  I didn't think they would let you do it with construction going on at the airport.  It took a week or so until I was able to pop down our PU after that trip.  I ran an electric heater in the PU for a few hours before poping down so that it was really dry inside.:)

What a great idea.  He is a good guy.  He's not indicating that he's going to charge anything, even though I've indicated that we're willing to pay some sort of rent.  I know he's losing a lot of business during the construction.

We've owned a small motel for about 20 years now, and we've worked with each other during that time.  Over the years, we've done a lot of reciprocal business.  He's sent us rooms, we've sent him tours.  I think the gift certificate idea would be perfect.  Thanks!

Sounds like it would be amusing for us to see, so with that thought in mind...

It's locked in the hanger at this point, I don't have a key.  The airport owner will open it up whenever I'm ready.  I'm plannng on checking on it this weekend.  I'll have to remember to bring a camera.  Photos will be posted as soon as I get them.

Flying PU.  Hmmm...just trying to figure out where I'd put the wings.  How about a parasail and tow it with a Cessna?

Next trip is going to be Pohick Bay SP, VA in April.  We were there last year, same time.  Beautiful place, Washington is very accessible.  Will have to post a campground report (where do I do that?) and will post exact dates when I have them.  If anyone wants to be there with us, you're welcome.

Photos...someone asked for photos...we've got photos.  Check out these.  We put it in the hanger on Tuesday.  Checked it out today (Saturday), and all was dry.  It rained several times during the time we had it stored in the hanger, so I'm glad we had it in there.  It's unlikely we would have dried out to pack it up otherwise.  We winterized it in the hanger, then packed it all up and brought it home.  Gave a gift certificate to a local restaurant to the airport owner.  If anyone is driving by, the airport can be seen from I86 just west of Corning, NY between exits 42 and 43.  It's on the south side of the highway.  They do an excellent job of giving air tours of the area.  Just thought I'd get in a plug for the airport.  Email me if you'd want contact information to set up one of those air tours.

They worked!!

Great pictures ~
I love the picnic table all set up.
I'm telling you ~
you should camp out there at least one night!   ;)

I agree with Kelly, you should camp in the hanger.  You would be the first one that I know of that did that.  Cool camp site.:)

Camping in the hanger?!?!? We'll have to keep it in mind for the next time.  We've got it at home now and winterized.  We clean the exterior, clean down the awning and put a cover on it (yes, we do that) and it's away for the winter.  Talked to DW about camping in the hanger, she doesn't look to happy with the idea. Don't know about DD.  Of course the airport owner will think we're nuts!
