Strange Campground Rules

I don't know if anyone has run into this but I was surprised about these two campgrounds that we stayed at on our trip.

One campground offered electric and water or full hookup sites.  Of course there was a couple of dollars difference in price.

I mentioned that we could get by with just the electric and water and that if they had a dump station I would dump on the way out.  I was then informed that there would be a $2.00 charge to use the dump station.  I have never paid to dump if I have camped at a place.  Ladies excuse when I questioned it was that "That's how we keep our costs down."

Other campground had a sign that said popups were only allowed to stay for one week.  You could then leave and come back in two weeks.  I asked about this.  Kind of got the impression that they were not pleased with some experiences they had with some popups.  Seems like more guests would arrive and a lot of stuff would be around the site.  They also mentioned that they were also doing away with tent camping.

I think their goal was for big rigs only.

I noticed a few threads recently on electric heaters.  I don't know if any of you have run into this but I have seen some campgrounds post a notice that electric heater use will ad a couple of dollars to the nightly fee.  Have also seen the same notice if you are going to use A/C.

I have also seen a couple of campgrounds that do not permit the use of electric heaters.  I guess the problem is the wiring in the park.

Yes I have seen pop up discremanation(sp)
I have  also seen places that charge if you have air I tend not to camp there .

When we camped at a "private resort" in Lake Tahoe, Ca., they informed me it would be $5 to dump our gray water.  I said, "Oh, for visitors, but we're staying at your campground."  Nope, $5 for everyone.  Sooooooo.....once the sun went down, their thirsty trees and bushes got watered with my biodegradable soapy, otherwise clean gray water.  there's no way I'm paying to park in your questionably maintained campgorund and then paying to dump the gray water!  That is part of your fees!  Grrrrrr.  Hope this doesn't start a trend.

By the way, the resort was Camp Richardson.  You can look up my review here on PUT from about July 2004.

Along the same lines are those private campgrounds that set their base rate at 2 adults ... then add for additional children between the ages of this AND add for children over a certain age AND add for using your AC or your electric heat AND add for any activities around the place, etc.

That nickel and diming can add up fast ~ especially if you have 4 kids!

I have never heard of a campground where you have to pay to dump your grey/black water.  That is crazy...it is like they are asking for people to dump where they shouldn't.  I am glad I can carry my grey and black tanks into a bathroom and dump.

I did find something I had never seen at a campground this past weekend.  I camped at a full hookup site.  There was the standard PVC pipe to hook your drain to and they had a metal step on lid over a second sewer hole.  It was nice, I had my grey water hose in the PVC sewer pipe and I could dump my cassette into the other hole without messing with my grey water hookup.  I don't have full hookups often, is this normal?:)

We went to a campground in Arizona up by Woods Canyon that charged $5.00 to dump and RV and $2.00 to dump a porta-potti.

Apologies in advance ~ I couldn't help myself!

I guess you know what your crap is worth now, eh?   :p

Has anybody seen Kelly lately?  I have not seen a post from her in months.

I've missed Kelly too. Guess she's getting ready for the holidays.

Tracy, I have never seen a setup like the one you mentioned. All the "full hookups" I have seen only had one sewer connection.
