Took the 5 y/o son on a 4-day "Men's Weekend Away" to the North Georgia Mountains.  Beautiful weather - wonderful views - good bonding.  (The lion in the pics is Louie - my son's preschool mascot - his weekend to watch him)

North GA Mountains trip

We're on top of Brasstown Bald - the highest point in Georgia.  You can drive to the parking area, then take a path that goes up 500 feet in about 1/2 mile.

We have camped several times in the north Georgia mountains around Clayton and Helen and look forward to going back again next summer. It is a very pretty area with cool days and nights...A great way to get away from the heat of summer in the lowlands.....

10 years ago, DW and I camped for a week at Blackrock Mountain State Park in NE Georgia, in my 71 VW Westfalia camper. 10 years and 3 kids later, we knew we had to start camping again, so we purchased a new (leftover) 04 Flagstaff 823D in July and headed back. It was just as beautiful as we remembered. The kids loved it! We ate like 2-headed hogs at the Dillard House, and traveled throughout the area for 9 days. Unfortunately, we had to return home (I had to go back to work) :( .

Rest assured, we are planning next years camping trip already, and will be returning to Blackrock with our new (to us) TV. I highly recommend this region (as well as this state park) to anybody even remotely close to it. We make the trip from Tampa,Fl and it is well worth the drive.
