One of the constants on various RV related message boards and forums are discussions that highlight many RVers dislike for their sales person and/or dealership.  Sometimes this frustration is recognized early and you elect to go elsewhere to spend your hard-earned money, and sometimes you don't see the "real deal" until after you have spent your money and are then neglected by everybody.  This thread is not intended to say that all salespeople and dealers are bad, because that is just not true.  There are many successful dealerships that trul understand their prospects needs and advise them accordingly.  But all too often, we read about disgust, dissatisfaction and frustration when we meet salespeople that can't spell "RV" and have never been in a campground in their life.

So, having laid out the newspaper, kindling wood, and firewood, let's light the match and tell us what you like, or dislike, about the sales rep and dealer where you purchased your most recent RV.

Well if you really want to know.  I feel that Rhone's Travel Trailers in Cogan Station, PA (near Williamsport, PA the home of Little League Baseball) is a good dealership.  They serviced my first PU that I had purchased used and that they did not originally sell and they sold me my new PU when I purchased.  I have called them the day before a trip when I had problems and they squeezed me in so that we could go on our trip.  After I had my roof replaced, there were some problems that I found before I took the trailer home.  I left the trailer there and they fixed the problems and delivered the trailer to me (a 50 drive) the following day.  This was early in the camping season when they were very busy.  I have dealt with several of the salesmen there over the year and they have always been good to me.:)

"But all too often, we read about disgust, dissatisfaction and frustration when we meet salespeople that can't spell "RV" and have never been in a campground in their life."

Can't spell "RV", heck my salesman couldn't even recognize the letters.

1.  He didn't camp himself

2.  Didn't know a thing about a brake controller.  Sold me the Voyager.  Stated it was the best controller because they sold a lot of them.  Short story, Voyager was removed and Prodigy put in.

3.  PDI was one of the worst experiences I ever had.  I was getting so aggravated at his incompetence, that I almost left.

When I asked him what the plastic tube was on the water pump, he replied, "We don't tell customers about that because we service that ourselves."  We are talking about the plastic tube that you use to winterize the camper.

He had no clue how to set up the bed ends or the awning.  He showed me how to separate the metal canvas bed support.  He said it was a poor design on the part of Jayco.   Well, he didn't know you could just press the button and take the support down.

Had to force him to hook the trailer up to water supply to check for leaks.  When I turned the faucet on, it sounded like a train going through.  Salesman said that that was the way all of them sound.  A little voice outside the trailer said, "that is a bad check valve, I'll replace it.  It was a technician eavesdropping.  Same thing happened with a couple of other items.

I could go on and on, but if anyone is considering buying a trailer in NH, email me and I will tell you where not to buy your trailer.  By the way, this is not a small dealership.

I did see this salesman do a pdi on a used Class A in about one hour.  By the time I got through with my pdi and it's problems, dw and I were there over five hours.

Just one more crowning moment with this dealership.  Since this was my first experience with a wdh, I asked a young man, who I thought worked in the service department, where I was supposed to grease the wdh.  (How to properly set up and use the hitch was another pdi sorepoint.)
He took me over to one on the floor, said here and here and walked off.  What he had pointed to was the end of a bolt sticking through a nut.  He thought it was a grease zerk.

In 1990 I purchased a popup from this same dealership.  Had a great relationship.  Since then, they have grown and only seem interested in how much money they can make.

Things have improved somewhat after a one hour conversation with the owner.

Bought my hybrid from Campers paradise at a camper show, new nothing about the dealer, when we went to get the camper we got a very good walk thru we were showen everything and how everything worked, hooked up the whd then unhooked it as they did not have the brake controler I wanted, they did not try to sell me the one they had in stock, I wanted a prodigy, was unable to take the camper home that day so the dealer offered to take it to my home for me which they did,2 days later they called saying they had gotted a pridigy brake controler in and would install it that day all I had to do was bring in my TV.

All in all I have not complaints about this dealer and would buy another camper from them. :)

As far as the sales person goes we got a good walk thru at the show and a good deal.

We bought our PU from Johnnie Walkers RV Center. They have been in business for over 40 years, longer than any other RV dealer. When i went to them to inquire about buying a PU they took me inside there building which housed all their different PU's. They had them set-up in a camping theme, its really cool. Jerry was the salemen who approached me and took me through all of them and explained what each one had and where all the storage and things were. He answered all my questions and seemed to know everything about the product. That impressed me. Here in town you can only find Starcraft, At Sahara RV, I was not impressed at all there. Also Rockwood at another dealer(i dont remember the name) but anyway i did like the PU's but i went there 2 times and never did anyone approach me to see if we we interested in a PU. So for us the choice was clear, we got a Jayco from Johnnie Walkers. I've had Jerry e-mail me several times to see how we are doing and if everything is OK with our PU............Ed C.      :sombraro:

On a scale of 1 - 10, mine rates a 0.  The rest of the staff was even worse.  If it weren't for a great buy on a one year old pu, we would have walked.  It was not a brand they carry.  We have not heard one word from them since we towed it off the lot.  They offered a 10% discount on anything in their store area the first day, and did give us a starter pack.  We kept the free stuff and didn't bother buying anything else.  I drive past the dealership daily on my way to work; but we will never spend another dime there.  Any stuff we have since bought (and, it's been plenty!  :) ) we have given our money to their competitors.  I am aware that this apparently is how this segment of the market is often treated but it still makes no sense.  I am in the hospitality industry and we do everything we possibly can to ensure our guests become return guests.  Don't these dealerships realize that some day we just might be upgrading to larger units and might just come back there to spend more money?

We bought our camper from Four Seasons in Big Flats, NY.  The salesman and owner was very knowledgeable.  I feel we received a very good price on the camper.  Their showroom is great, many models are opened up indoors available for anyone to look over.  The technician is an avid camper and very helpful.  The only complaint we might have is the lack of "people sense" on the part of the salesman.  He can be somewhat abrasive in his dealings.  I feel we were treated well and fairly, and would go back there again.  I would recommend this dealer to others who might be interested.

On a scale of 1 - 10...how about a 15???  Our dealer is awesome.  It's Restless Wheels in Manassas Virginia and we've never been anything but pleased with them.    Their salesmen are not paid commission and are not pushy at all. As a matter of fact, when we first started seriously looking and even thinking about a PU we owned a Honda CRV. The tow limit on it was 1000 lbs. The dealer told us he wouldn't even sell us a PU with that as our tow vehicle as it just wasn't safe for us, our vehicle, or others on the road.   We "looked" and played in their campers for close to 3 years before we actually decided on the camper that we wanted (and had a tow vehicle that could pull it).   Even knowing we weren't buying yet, the dealers were always helpful and knowledgable with any questions we had on different campers we looked at.  They would leave you alone when you wanted to look on your own, yet they were there to answer any questions when you had them and if they didn't KNOW the answer, they would find it. When it finally came time to buy we knew we wouldn't buy anywhere else! They spent an entire afternoon going through setup when we picked it up. They did it all from start to finish first and had us take notes. Then they had us do it all ourselves so we had at least done it once.     We've been equally pleased with the store sales personnel and the service personnel.  IT's a dealer where the owners and sales people are actually campers themselves.   I would highly recommend them to anyone and will certainly buy any future camper from them!

Our dealer was RVs Plus in Willmar, MN.  The owner of the dealership walked us inside and out on popups.  He also bought our family slices of pizza for lunch.  On top of that he helped us with selling our TT.  The owner was very knowledgeble about popups and went through items to compare with between different makes and models.  Plus we got a great deal on our popup!  So we are happy thus far with our dealership.

We bought ours from Richardson's RV in Riverside, Ca. They are 100 miles away from where we live but, the Jayco dealer that is 20 miles away from us didn't want to deal with us. Richardson's RV were easy to deal with. The finance lady was a bit difficult to get ahold of at times, but they gave us our starter kit, 10% off in the store anytime, plus took our picture with the TT the day we picked it up and put it on a calender for us. They also gave us a free year at an RV Resort of our choice on the Colorado river. We haven't taken advantage of that yet. I'd go back there again.
