Last word on the real threadkillers

OK, I think I've identified the real threadkiller.  And I am guilty.  :yikes:

How did I come to this conclusion?  Well, statistically, of course, and you know what they say about statisticians!

I developed a "Threadkiller Rating."  First, I made a list of everyone who had recently killed a thread.  That meant:
1) The thread had to be on page 2, 3, or 4 of this (The Campfire) forum;
2) The thread had to have at least one response (threads nobody responds to are not killed, but stillborn...they never got started).

I then gave out "killed thread points" based on which page the thread was on.  I considered page 4 to be "deader" than page 3, and page 3 "deader" than page two.  So if you killed a thread on page 2, you got 1 point, if you killed a thread on page 3, you got 2 points, and if you killed a thread on page 4 you got 3 points.  I then took the total points and divided that by the total number of posts the user has, so someone with 1,000 posts and three dead threads would not be rated as high as someone with 200 posts and 2 dead threads.  Unfortunately, this yielded one entry where *every* post by the user killed a thread, and I did not want to put a newcomer at the top of the list just because of a little bad luck.  So to that rating I added the total number of killed threads (unweighted), and got the list below:

My own "Threadkillers Scale" is like this:
20 or more - Master threadkiller
10-19 - Advanced threadkiller
5-9 - Expert threadkiller
3-5 - Budding threadkiller
0-2 - Have a nice day!

Wow!  Congratualations  AB!  I would have never thought that I'd rate 2 on the scale.

dthurk

Actually, there's no way I could be number 2 on the list if you take into consideration all posts.  For example, going back into the Campfire forum shows threads from 2003.  I'm too new a member to have this distinction.  I may have to cede my position to one who's been around longer.   :(

AB, how far back did your research take you?

Mr AB ~

You need a new job ... said with the utmost affection, of course!   :D

AB doesn't need a new job.  We all need the camping season to get underway.    :eyecrazy:

April 16 is it for us.  99 days 'till our next camping trip!  :tent:

In your (apparently endless) free time, maybe you could tally up the Zoomkillers, too.....   ;)

Oh that would be interesting.

As for the thread killing, I guess that I am lucky that I post so much, or else I would have rated higher.:)

I'm sure that would be me. In fact, I'd just about bet a Dr. Pepper on it.

For total number of posts (which serves to reduce your standing), I went back to the beginning of time (i.e. the numbers on the Members page).

For number of threads killed, I used pages 2, 3, and 4 of this forum...about 2-3 months ago.

If you have a better method, I'd welcome you to take on the task of coming up with your own rating method. ;)

So now I am not only the king of the looooong post, but the master threadkiller, too. ;)

No, I don't have a better way of doing it.  Just surprised that I could rank 2 on the list for as short a time as I've been with this group.  I'll wear my ranking with pride.  Congrats, AB!
