Hey folks,

Noobie here.  The DW has authorized a pop up purchase, as she is getting quite tired of the old tent, or maybe the old man...not sure.  Anyway we went to the RV show here in town today and there are so many choices. We found a pop up that we really liked Rockwood 2516G.  Really liked the feature set and it seemed to be a pretty sturdy rig.  Thoughts on this thing?  Any idea what the resale on this thing would be?  The dealer is asking $15k (taxes, tag etc) off the lot with a brake controller thrown in.  I'm seeing that as about 2k more than what I am finding at online sites.

Any guidance or help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

I'm sure you'll find lots of great info on this site, and opinions, too!  :)  So here's an opinion.

I've got a Rockwood 1950, which comes with the toilet/shower combo (but no slide-out), and I spent more than $5K less -- and that's with AC and everything else you're interested in.  My thought is that you can do better.  That being said, you might want to see what 2005 models are going for on some of the want-ad sites.

I love my little Rockwood!  But it's just me, so I don't need all the room the unit you're looking at provides.  I've got no complaints and love all the features, especially the toilet/shower.  When I'm showering in my little "mobile vacation home" I just can't believe how luxurious it feels!  And on cold nights I just plug in my mattress and sleep like a baby.  It's almost embarrassing ... :D

I think you'd find that Rockwoods are good trailers, and that the company stands behind their product.  Feel free to PM me if you want any other info.

Thanks much Laura, I am still researching at this point, I'm pretty sure that I can match or beat the price the dealer was trying for.

Thanks again!

Welcome to PUT!  I want to point out two considerations, before you buy.  One is having a good dealer to work with.  There are some dealers that forget who you are once you purchased your trailer, unless you buy a big Class A motor home.  Check around and find out what you can about the dealer and the service department before you buy.  The second thing is your tow vehicle (TV).  What is the tow capacity of your TV?  A good rule of thumb is to only town 75% of the rated capacity.  You need to account for the weight of the trailer and everyone/thing in the TV when looking at how much your rig weighs.  You  don't want to buy more trailer that your rig can pull safely.:)

Do yourself a favor and make sure the give you a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller.  Don't accept any other brake controller.  The Prodigy is the best on the market.  Once you set it, you can forget it.  What options are included with the trailer?  The price seems high to me.

You might want to check out a Flagstaff dealer if you have one in your area.  Flagstaffs and Rockwoods made by Forest River are essentially identical except for badging and trim color of the tenting.  Kind of like the difference between a GMC Jimmy and a Blazer...none..

I saved over a thousand dollars by finding this out...with more stuff.

We have the Rockwood 2516G.  Ours is a 2005 model and we love it.  14K sounds a bit high.  You might want to shop around online for perhaps a newer used one and use those figures to negotiate price with the dealer.  The 2516G has lots of perks that make camping more comfortable, good luck in your search.

I forgot to say that per a discussion on another forum- there appears to be several 2516G- Ours is the premier, but several said that the Highwall and the Rhino were also listed as 2516G ???  So maybe the one you are looking at is one of those, and they are higher- 15K higher, well, I don't know.  Here is a link to one like mine in the 2006 model that is a bit lower on the price than your local dealer.  http://www.rvusa.com/rvinventory_item.asp?id=229172
