Hello...my wife and I are considering buying our first pu...my main concern is our tow vehicle...we have a 2003 toyota highlander, 2.4L 4cyl with a tow rating of 3000#'s....we are looking at the viking legend 2472 which has a dry weight of around 2300#'s....of course we'lll have cargo and passengers....do you think we'll be pushing the limits of the tv?  I really appreciate any insight....thanks

I think that you would be over that tow rating.  Remember that you need to subtract the cargo and people that are in the tow vehicle.

And welcome to the forum.  We are still in the shopping stage as well.

Welcome to PUT!

Yes I think you would be pushing your TV.  As a rule of thumb, only tow 75% or the rated capacity, 3000 X 75% = 2225 pounds.  With the trailer you are looking at weighing 2300 pounds empty, I would say no.:)

I agree with the others. You are already too close to max. When you factor your gear and passengers I believe you will be over. There are some other brands that are lighter.

Any specific features you must have?  How many people will be camping?  Any pets going?

Take a look at Aliner.  The hard sided pop ups are pretty cool, and there's several that are pretty light.  Also, Jayco has the 806 model that's has a 2000# GVWR.  Since you are looking at the Vikings, the 2170 ST model is 1885# dry, that might do the trick.
