Like others have said, there really isn't much you can do to secure the camper other than a couple of locks to slow the thieves down.

Parking lots at motels are generally well lite so park near a light pole.

I use to worry about the popup getting hitched to the back of someone else's tv and lost a couple of nights sleep getting up to check on it.  After a while, I finally said that I have done what I can, it is insured and now it is up to fate.

Began sleeping better.

You can make it real real hard to unhook, block the PUP with TV, but if somebody wants it all they have to do is drive off in the TV. Quit watching the nightly news, crime rate is going down. It does happen, just put a lock on it and don't stress.

It's the same thing as car alarms.  You can take precautions, but if someone wants to steal it, they will steal it.

The only thing you can really do is put a couple locks on it and sort of block it in.  Then go in and have a good night's sleep.  If it's gone in the morning, then deal with it then.  Hopefully you won't have to deal with that, but if you do, it is a posession and those can be replaced.

Since you're the world traveler -- any experiences with So. Oregon beach campgrounds?  I'm thinking about Sunset Beach SP after Yosemite.  Looks like a nice change of pace (weather-wise), AND it has full hook-ups.  But I don't want to try & drive there in 1 day.  Might try mooching off a friend in Palo Alto or looking for a Motel 6 (have the dog, you know).  Then another 4 days or so along the coast up there.  Lots of driving by myself, but heck, I'm tough!  :D

I live about 1 hr from oregon coast, I like Beverly beach state park, has full hookups, close to other activities, oregon coast aquarium in Newport, tide pools
has all the amenities you would want. if you want more information email me at  fly4rfun@hotmail.com i will send you some  also try these links

I have a pad lock on the trailer hitch and also the drawbar pin which will not slow a determined thief very much. I always park in a well lighted area and away from the entrance if possible. I have a lock on the spare tire but not on the battery. Spare tires are more likely to be stolen than batteries simply because a good spare tire can be hocked  in a pawn shop, a battery cannot.
We have stayed in motels many times over the years in our travels with the popup and have never had a problem. The insurance man gets a tidy sum every year to take care of any theft problems that we might have. We sleep tight and let him do all the worrying........ :eyecrazy:

Just carry a 4' section of chain and chain the tongue to the receiver hitchor bumper.  If there is no opeing to feed the chain through, then use 8' and chain to axle.  Other than that, jackknife it in the corner of the lot.  Good luck.

Might be easier to just skip the motels and sleep in it every night.:D

But what if they steal the PU while you are sleeping in it?

How about chaining a watch dog to it, or removing the wheels for the night?:eyecrazy:

If they want it they will get it.  Just try and make your trailer not worth the effort for them to get it and have a good nights sleep.:)
