Please explain what you are talking about in #1.

#2 could be caused by not being level or the top not going up all the way.

What make & model PU do you have?

unitydnk

Aero voyager 2002
the ball hitch thing it has to be held up by one person then wiggled on and then move the truck foward be for we can get it locked down....I just know it should be easier *sigh*

1.  The coupler should open when you lift the handle and then it should slide right down over the ball.  If it isn't here are a few things you can look at.  Is it the proper size ball?  The coupler should have the proper size ball marked on it, 1 7/8 inch or 2 inch.  On my trailer I have to make sure that the very front of the coupler comes down on the side of the ball closest to the bumper.  Another way to put it is that the coupler is "reaching" for the ball.  If the coupler is too far forward a piece of the coupler hits the ball and pushes the handle up, and the coupler will not engage the ball properly.  Do you use hitch lube on the ball?  It helps the coupler slide smoothly over the ball.  I hope this helps and that I understood the problem.

2.  If the trailer is not level you will have problems.  Is the roof up all the way?  Don't attach the bunkend canvas or put the poles in the bunkend until you have the door installed.  Are you twisting the frame by putting too much pressure on the frame with the stabilizing jacks?  That can cause door problems too.:)

Silicon isn't heavy enough.  You really want a grease.  White lithium grease works very well.  Reese (the hitch company) sells little plastic cups of "Hitch Lube" for about $5.  One cup last me several years.  I also have several pair of "camping jeans" that have a grease mark on the leg where I walked into the ball after unhitching. :banghead:   A few people use wax paper.  They fold it up into a square and put it on the ball.:)
