My wife and I are looking into restoring a 1985 starcraft nova that was given to us free. The body and frame are solid, however the camper has been invaded by mice for the past five years. The canvas is trashed and the floor needs to be replaced from rot. I am waiting for this Michigan weather to brake so I can get started on this project. Does anyone have any tips for us. I am contacting Bearcreek about canvas. Iam just hoping the critters haven't damaged electric or plumbing. Any tips on getting rid of bad smell mice left behind?

HI!  I'm not a camper expert... but from a "housekeeping" point of view, I think a lot of that smell will disappear when you complete the demo.  You are talking about a major remodel, the smell probably lurks in the surfaces you are replacing (canvas, cushions, etc.)  What a fun project!  I hope you guys have a blast working on this.  We once demo'd a 1940's "I Love Lucy" trailer, and it was so much fun.  Have fun!

I think it will be fun too, and my wife is excited about the project herself which makes me even more into it. My 4 year old just wants to take it to Jellystone and see Yogi. I cleaned it out yeaterday and I filled three trash bags. Saturday I take down the canvas to send off to BearCreek for replacement. I noticed a web site on building cabinets for your rv does anyone have any tips on the subject. Also I have a cemical with a enzym in it to disenfect and kill the odor from the mice. I will post my results with it after I clean everything.

Good luck on the project.  Have you checked if the lift system works OK?  Take pictures of the project and post them if you can.:)

Yes the lift system works good and I do plan on posting pictures from start to finish. I used the enzyme cleaner yesterday and this morning there isn't a hint of mouse pee any where. Even on the mattress and cushions. How ever there are some holes in the sponge of the mattresses where the mice chewed. Someone told me that when I have the reupolstered they can fill the holes with something so I wont need to buy new foam pads.
