I have a Dutchmen 1008D PU.  One of the aluminum awning poles  siezed up on us, the kind you twist to lock and unlock.  Anyone have any suggestions on getting it to break free?

Thanks!

Try tapping on it with a small hammer or the handle side of a butter knife. Not hard enough to dent it, just hard enough to dislodge whatever corrosion or dirt that may be trapped inside.

You might try running water through it if that doesn't work. Hot water would be best.

If that fails, use the good old stand-by:

I inherited 4 of these poles from my dad.  All they are inside is a piece of round rubber, offset center.  I'd WD40 em, have had to a couple of times with mine, they are OLD, but still good.  After you get it loose, take them apart, there's probably some dirt in there!

Sounds like the same type awning poles used on my Starcraft. With th BIG springtime maintenance of the camper, where I lube the lifters with silicone spray, turn the same stuff lose on the turning ends of those awning pole sections; do a sort of spray and wipe with a rag routine on them. I found it also important to wipe them dry of any water should they be set out and caught in a good rain.  Puting wet poles away may not cause them to rust because they are aluminum, but none the less, an oxidation process with the metal will set in very soon.

I have one of these poles in my camper.  One end has a short, straight piece (I assumed went through an eyelet) and the other end has a 90 degree hook.  I thought that it was part of a screen room for the awning that has never been installed.  Is this part of my awning?
