I recently purchased a new Jayco 1007 PU.  We love it and I am spending all my time off camping season thinking about mods I want to do to it.  I will be adding a car CD player and some other things.  The PU does not have AC, but does have a roof vent without a fan.  I would like to take a couple of 12V 4" PC case fans and fabricate a bracket to mount to the inside to draw the hot air out of the camper on hot days.  HAs anyone heard of or seen this done that could comment on.  Pictures would help too.  Thanks

Happy camping!!

Have not seen this done.  But have you explored simply replacing the vent with a Fantastic Fan?  Should just drop in to the opening and they are great units! http://www.fantasticvent.com

It says it is 12v, so it does need to be connected to power and need to be installed properly or could leak.  Has anyone done this installation that might be able to provide some information?

Has anyone had one installed professionally, that could give a ballpark estimate of the costs?

It is a GREAT idea, we love our ceiling fans at home...I'm sure this product works, and for those of us without AC might make those hot summer nights a lot more bearable!

I installed mine. It was easy - and I had to cut the hole.  If you call them directly they can help you get the right trim for your camper and give hints in installation.  I ran the power to my internal ceiling light and covered it with a piece of wire channel.  I know some folks have pictures of how they did theirs - I just can't remember who they are.

A Endless Breese Fan, made bye the same company, might be a better choice. They are small, portable and move a lot of air. They plug into a 12 volt jack.:)

Thanks abbear,

I did see that one and really liked it.  I will probably purchase this one when I have some spare $$$ and am trying to get away with utilizing what I have with no out of pocket expense.  I think I am still going to tinker and try to get it to work.  I will most likely mount them above the screen and inside the dome.  I will not be making any holes so if it did not work out...no big deal.  I would assume any air exhausting out the roof will help as it can get toasty in the sun.  I Especially like the smoked lexan dome of the one you suggested...looks nice.

There's a fellow camper/fisherman in our group that has the Fantastic Fan in his Jayco. He already had the ceiling vent so installation was an easy job. Not sure how he handled the electrical hook-up ... but he really likes it's performance. The vast majority of our outings are to areas with no electrical hook-ups.

I opted for the portable Endless Breeze Fan (12 volt). For me, I like everything portable ... so if it's not necessary to have on a certain trip, it stays behind and I don't have additional weight to tow around and space taken up.
