What are your favorite places/things to do with your popup close to home here in Texas?

Mine has usually been employed in support role of some version of the lake weekend, or bike weekend, or climbing weekend. Allows me to pursue my varied outdoor interests, and extend the enjoyment because have comfortable 'home away from home' to return to at end of days activities. Love all the Highland lakes chain state and local parks, and Padre island parks, north and south, and Big Bend.....

Man, it is great to camp in texas :) :) :)

Not a lot of activity in this forum area, for the number of Texans I see posting. And can't remember my yahoo login anymore to check out that group. Thought I'd stir things up a bit;)

I live just outside Houston, but I really like Guadalupe River State Park...  Vey nice and quiet.  It takes us about 3 hours to get there, but worth it.

Hi Gager, Nice to see someone else popup in here.

I also enjoy Guadalupe SP and have been there often with and without pup. Is a little closer from Austin area than from Houston.

Here lately I have been camping Lake Georgetown, is a corp of engineers park with nice sites, fishing, swimming, boating, some excellent mountain bike trails, and close to home in these times of big gas prices. We will often have 3 sites side by side along lakeside, for a big lake weekend.

Sometimes the problem with Texas is that it is hard to pick a favorite spot, there are just too many :). Maybe a favorite spot per season, as I find my choice of favorite varies with the weather, and sometimes the desired activity.

Texas is so big.  We have so many camping places and areas, the picking one favorite spot is like searching for the one sea shell on Texas coast line...

Taking the Grandchildren is my newest hobby, we just go where the fish are bitting. Texas is great and too large to pick one perfect place. Everywhere is great and a new adventure

You ever go so Sommerville? Great fishing (especially when crappie running) and an excellent trail system for hiking or bike riding. Plus opportunities for waterplay in lake during warmer months (all 10 of them :) )

I am truck/tent camping and backpacking this summer due to ongoing repairs and upgrades to PUP, but hope to have it back on the road in '07.

I agree with the rest.  TX is too big to pick a favorite.  My husband and I just bought a popup and have only camped twice in it so far.  We camped at Bastrop St Pk and Buechners ST. Park.  We have tent camped for several years and camped all over TX so are looking forward to taking the popup to these places.  One of our favorite places is Canyon of the eagles.  We aren't fishers but we love the outdoors.  We are active and like to kayak, climb, hike, and bike.  Perhaps some others can come up with some good areas for these activities with camping facilities.

As far as the climbing the best is Reimers ranch recently a county park, but it does not have camping.  It's close enough though that we can drive for the day,

Hi Stewarts,

Have you tried the COE campgrounds at Lake Georgetown yet? I love staying at Jim Hogg park on north shore and riding the excellent MTB trail out there. Nice campsite, with hookups and well tended facilities. Some campsites are lakeside so can anchor boat off them during stay. And is close to home so cheap on gas :)

I also stay out at pace bend park a lot boondocking.

Welcome to popups, hope to see you out there camping sometime.

Matt
