Has anyone ever bought a popup from a Canadian dealer? (who is not from Canada?) I was wondering with the value of the Canadian dollar if you could get a better deal. I also wondered about tax concerns, customs, etc. Any ideas?

campingeyedocHmmm, interesting question...there are a lot of implications for buying a camper cross boarder, some good and some not so good.

One of the biggest would be actual cost, if a camper cost $10,000 CND, if you paid in US $ the exchange would be something like $6,560 USD.  In Ontario, we have a 15% tax, however I believe you could apply to get some if not all of that back.  I m not sure how much you d have to pay on duty.  I know to bring things into Canada that was purchased in the US cost us a lot, you d have to see what duty is applicable.

There may be some question as to whether the saftey standards are the same as well.  A lot of different products, even though made in the same factory, are built to different standards depending on which State or Province they would be shipped to.

It would be interesting about warranty, I wonder if you d have to travel to Canada or whether you could use a local dealer?  I m not sure which side of Lake Ontario you are from so try [link=http://www.gorving.ca/ontario.html]this [/link] link to see if there are any RV dealers in Ontario close to you.  Maybe you could phone them to see if they could better answer your question.
