I just got a 1996 Fleetwood.  I had my truck wired for a 7 pin wiring harness.  When I unplug from the truck to set up the running lights all stay on.  The lights also stay on when I plug it into shore power.  This didn't happen when I first got the trailer a month ago.  Did I hit a switch or something, or is this going to be a much bigger problem?  Help, please.

Welcome to PUT.

I can't remember for sure, but it seems like there is a switch or something that causes this. Don't worry...I doubt this is a big problem.

I'm sure someone can answer this.

I assume the running lights that stay on are the ones on the trailer, not the truck.  I don't know of a switch that will do this.  I would start by opening the trailer's 7-pin plug and making sure the charge line is not shorting to the running/tail lights.  There is 12V on the charge line whenever you are connected to your tow vehicle, whenever the battery is connected, and whenever you are plugged in to shore power.

Shoop, in my Bayside, there is a switch on the inside of the camper above the access doors to the front storage locker.  Turning the switch on turns on a little light inside the storage compartment so you can see in there.  It also turns on the running lights outside the trailer.  I have no earthly idea why that is.  At first I thought something was screwy with the wiring, but then realized the switch made them come on.  My switch is an illuminated one that lights up red when on, so I know when I (or my son) has turned it on.  The switch is useful because at night when walking back to the camper it sure makes it easier to find with the running lights on.

My 2000 Bayside (made between his & yours) does not do this.

And you said you had no earthly idea why it did that...

Austin, I figured yours didn't when you didn't mention it.  Yep, I have no idea why they would wire it that way.  Another strange thing about the switch (if I remember correctly) is that the storage compartment light comes on automatically when you open the storage locker when connected to the TV, but not when disconnected.  I am having enough problems with my right brake and recently discovered leak in the front compartment to worry about the lights  :eyecrazy:

IF the PU is plugged into the TV the trunk light is supposed to come on when the lid is open and the running lights will come on when the trunk light switch is turned on.  I also am not sure why they have the running lights come on, but it does let you know that the switch is on.  Many to save draining the battery on the TV, if you didn't know the trunk light is on???:)

PS this stuff is in the owners manual

C'MON Tracy, who reads the owner's manual. :D Just kidding.  I did read the manual, and actually remember reading about the trunk light (being plugged in versus not) but didn't remember seeing anything about the running lights.  I'm glad they do that. We turn them on at night as use them as party lights.....

It was the trunk light.  Since there was no bulb in it I never knew I had one.  The pressure switch wasn't connecting when I closed it.  Thanks everyone for there help.

I am glad you found the problem.  I know it can be very frustrating when you can't track a problem down.:)
