Tae Kwon Do tournament

My DD has a tkd tournament in Roanoke, VA and I'm thinking of using it as an excuse to camp   Does anyone know if there are any nice campgrounds in the area? I'm willing to be within an hour drive.

Sorry I can't help, we just got our popup 2 weeks ago and have only been to Williamsburg Va.and Twin Lakes in Chockowinity NC. We are in northern NC just off I95 near the Va. line and are looking forward to meeting other campers espescially ones from NC.

I highly recommend Goose Point Corp of Engineers Campground in Basset, VA.  Mapquest says it is 1 hr and 2 minutes from Roanoke.  I have pictures on my webshots page from Goose Point and  Goose Points webpage shows a picture of every single campsite!  http://www.saw.usace.army.mil/philpott/goosepoint.htm
If that one doesn't work for you, there is also Claytor Lake State Park (VA State Park system). Claytor Lake is in Dublin VA and Mapquest says 56 minutes.    
 
Smith Mountain Lake State Park shows that it is closer but I can't recommend that one. It's one of the rare VA State Parks where I wouldn't want to camp.  yuk...

Although I'm a little late in posting this, any of the Corp. of Engineers campgrounds around Clarksville, VA are very nice.  I stayed at Occoneechi SP just outside Clarksville, and while nice, the sites pads weren't as nice as the Corp. campgrounds I'd visited when there.  Also the NC Recreation Areas (campgrounds) on Kerr Lake are very nice - we've stayed at County Line CG for many years, as well as Kimball Point.  Hope this helps in the future.

The closest one is Dixie Caverns Campground.  It is on the west end of Roanoke near Salem around exit 135 on I81.  I haven't camped there but definitely your closest bet. My DS is in TKD but not the tournament.  Hope you do well.
