Where to put the awning Poles?

I am looking for a good way to store the poles to the awning. I have seen PCV pipe used and want to know if this is a good idea. I would have to place it on the rear bumper if I did this but how would I attach it to the camper?

I have a front storage locker and I store my pole like THIS.  HERE is another view.  I made it using strips of Aluminum I bought at Lowe's and tool clips I got from wal-mart.  I riveted the clips to the aluminum and riveted the whole thing to the bottom of the storage locker lid.  Of course if you dont have a storage locker, this won't help much. :(

I did not invent this mod, I merely copied it so I take no credit for it....

I roll my awning poles up in the awning bag.  I put the first pole in against the metal head of the awning and turn the awning one turn.  Then I put the next pole in and turn the awning another turn.  I have 3 poles so I do this three times and then finish rolling the awning up.  The poles are always with the awning so I don't have to look for them.  If you decide to do the PVC pipe storage you can use wire ties and "U" brackets to attach the tube to the bumper.:)

My awning bag has loops in it. I stick the poles in the loops before I role up the awning.

tknick, you did a very neat install of that bracket! Looks like it belongs there. I did this mod and found it really reduces the stress on the awning bag seams. In fact, this is the second camper we've done this way. Pics are in my Webshots site.

Skip, I'm glad you posted a reply, because it was your mod that I copied.  Your webshots is where I saw it first.  Thanks for the idea!!!  And I agree, it's a great place for the poles.  I got tired of them falling out on me when I unzipped the bag.  Thanks Again.  Like to give credit where credit is due.

We roll up the awning and DH partially zips the bag closed.  I then hand him the poles one-by-one, and he just slides them into the bag.  Never had any problems doing it this way for 4+ years now.

I used to put the poles in the bag last, but I did have a problem doing it that way. :o  I forgot about them a couple of times and had them fall, so I started putting them in first.  No problem now.:)

We do it this way also.

I put mine in the rear of the storage trunk, where they ride on top of the levelers and a wood partition between our hot water heater and the rest of the trunk. That way, they're on top and easy to get to. If we don't put up the awning, they're not in the way there.

I had done SkipP's mod, but I never was happy with the results, so I finally removed it after several years. Great idea, but it didn't work well in my overpacked trunk.

We always put our awning poles under the mattress.  That is where the dealer had them when we first picked up or PU.

we keep ours in the basement along with the bag chairs, hoses, extension cords, plastic sheets to cover firewood etc. we have an 89 starcraft spacestar. the entire camper is about a foot taller than usual and there is a doube deck floor, creating a ton of space
