Getting ready for our annual Garner State Park trip.  We stay for 10 glorious days and we can't wait.

Haven't been in the pop up for at least 8 months.  Hoping to get it opened up and aired out in the next couple days so we can make sure we don't need to take care of anything before our trip in 3 weeks.

Anyone else visit GSP?

Garner has some good hiking, we hiked to crystal cave one day.  Play in the river every day. On the bad side it is a large park with too meny people. Lost Maples is close by take a look at it; great in the fall.
Have fun

We've done Crystal Cave and even Mt. Baldy.  Getting in the river every day is a must during the warm months!  It is a large park but we have one area that we stick to and have enjoyed it for the past 29 years.  We've been to Lost Maples and it is quite pretty but during the warm months we'd rather go to GSP so the kids can swim in the river.  Lost Maples is more of a cooler months kind of park for us.

Last time we were at the GSP we camped neer Wild Horse Creek trail. We had a great time. I can rember the old gate on HWY 83 when camping with my grandfather too meny years ago.  My wife wants to stay at one of those dude ranches. Do know of any good ones?

Don't know of any of the dude ranches.  Good luck and let us know what you find out as I'm sure my family would be interested now that the kids are a little older to probably enjoy it.

We go every year for a family reunion on the Frio River.  We don't go to Garner, though.  We stay at a small private campground on River Rd in Concan.  There are only 15 hook-up sites and one cabin.  Every year my family takes up all but one or two sites.  There's also enough tent space for about 20 tents.  My mothers family has been doing this since she was a kid.  We look forward to going there every year.  This year we'll be up there July 7-12.  I'm already planning meals :-)

We've stayed in Uvalde before in a motel for an unexpected trip.  We've stayed in Leakey before at what used to be Mt. Laurel Inn when I was expecting our last child and then again the following year since he was still only 6 months old when we went.  The year after that we stayed at River Oaks Resort but it just didn't do it for us.  If we can't stay in Garner State Park I don't know if we'd be going - or I'm sure we'd go it just wouldn't be the same for us.

I'm sure we'll make a trip in July as well as later on in the year before it gets too cold to swim and then we're hoping to make a Fall trip this year to spend some time in those beautiful changing colors.

This will be our first trip of the year next week and it is to the Frio River, where else!!!

We upgraded to a Jayco 1206 a few weeks ago and am looking forward to visiting the Hill Country.  We have been camping in a small private park up river from Garner called Yeargan's River Bend for the past few years and love it.

I grew up camping at Garner but since we found this place it is hard to go back.

Last time we were at Garner SP we were tent camping.  The rain, it did pour and pour.  We did the old dry every single thing you brought with you routine, and haven't been back.  I think that now we are PUP people, we will give it another try- it is a beautiful part of Texas.

See we tried the other place camping and couldn't believe we left old faithful of Garner State Park!!!  Funny how you love one place and when you go somewhere else that basically has you in the same spot anyway it just isn't that same.

Woo hoo for next week!!!  We leave on Friday and won't be back for about 13 days!  We are so ready.

We used to camp in the lower part of Garner as close to the dam as possible then in later years the upper part.  It was great hangin' out on the limestone shelfs in the middle of the river and the falls under the bridge.

We found Yeargan's when Garner was shut down for a while because of the flood damage back in the late 90's.

Have a great time at Garner!!!!!!!!!!!
