We are planning a trip to the Adirondacks this August, and are looking for input concerning the state campgrounds in the Schroon Lake area. Has anyone stayed at Paradox Lake, Putnam Pond, Lake Harris, Rogers Rock, or any others in the area. We like privacy, wooded sights, water views, and quiet (in other words, perfect camping sights). We know there are no hookups, but we prefer to be in nature, not among big rigs, stores and playgrounds.

If there are any nice private CGs with electic that stand out, let us know about them as well.

Thanks, and we'll be sure to post reviews when we get back.

Hi
we are originally from the Adirondacks and still camp there all the time.  We've stayed at Paradox Lake CG and Rogers Rock CG.  We drove through Putnam Pond last week because we will be camping there in a few weeks and wanted to "preveiw" it.

Putnam Pond has some interior island sites that are only accessible by water, other than that, the only one right on the water is #47, it's kind of marshy...not a swimming site, but there is a nice beach in the CG.  Overall, the campground is beautiful, almost all sites are private and wooded.  There was a great article about it in an issue of "Adirondack Explorer" magazine.

Paradox Lake campground is wonderful too, with very wooded private sites, although none right in the water.  Sites 44-51 are closest to the water.  Nice beach here too.  It's about 15 minutes from the village of Schroon Lake.  Eagle Point State CG is 10 minutes South of Schroon Lake, and is nice too.

I used to camp at Roger's Rock when I was young and it is a wonderful State CG with a handful of sites right on the water.  It is far enough north from the village of Lake George that you get the beauty and serenity of Lake George without all the crowds and rowdiness!
