OK, had a great 5 day memorial weekend trip.. our planned site was washed out so we were setup at pretty much an ant farm.. no big deal. BUT!!!  on the last day we found that the ants were infiltrating our camper.  I reopened it up this morning to clean er out real good and found a whole party of ants.. SO after an ant party massacre with ortho home defense I was wondering if anyone knew of a good way to make sure that they are gone.  I plan to go thru this thing pretty well today.. let it air out and such and then pack it back up.  It looks like they were probably coming in thru our slider.
Any tips would be appreciated.   THANKS! Shawn

Them! is one of my all time favorite sci fi classic movies!  In the movie, they used flame throwers among other things to rid themselves of the problem.  That would definitely work here, but the end result might be less than desirable.  Don't know what else to suggest.

Yep.. great flick.  you can see what I'm up against.  but the flamethrower is still my "plan B".  thanks

OC Campers

Unsure how to get them out of the camper.   I guess a massacre with a can of Raid  at the entrance may be the best plan.  A way we found to prevent this from happening when we go camping and there are a lot of ants is surround all 4 tires and anything else that is a "gang plank" to the inside of the camper with white cleanser (like Comet or Ajax).

When we lived in Southern Calif. we would go camping and see these white circles on the campground pads.  We finally found out what it was and what it was for.  We not keep a can of Comet inside the camper at al times.

Try this ol' trick.....Actually there are two tricks to control ants.

1. After setting up, find a location, preferably by a tree or bush, and pour out about a 1/4 cup of Pancake syrup on the ground.... This will attrack ants, flys, fleas, and all sorts of bugs and bees, and they will not bother any place else in the campsite.... or

2. If you can determine where the ants are invading, place a small amount of black pepper at the entrance point. Ants don't like pepper and will advance no farther.....

Now I know these sound really "far out" but believe me, they work.... an old Scoutmaster trick for tent camping...works with any type of camping....

those are some good tips.. Thank you
I *should* have asked for another spot, I have run into insect problems at this campground before.. not ants but big flying stinging insects

We had the problem with the Big Momma Black Ants, and got the "discs" to put in the camper. They are like roach motels.

Took care of the problem.

Wowee, this is exactly what happened to us after the maiden voyage in April.  Left the camper in the driveway for a few days after the trip, then when we opened it up for air & cleaning found it was ant central. Eeeeeew!
We sucked up as many as we could with the shop vac.  Then our neighbor recommended an ant killing product called Tarro which worked great.  A little bottle costs about 3 bucks at the hardware store... put a few drops on cardboard scraps here and there inside the box, and after several days they were gone.
I think they get into inaccessible areas like between the plywood and outer skin of the pup, where sprays and foggers may not have any effect, so using a bait poison like this one makes a difference.
It also probably helped that we moved the camper into the garage, out of ant territory.
BTW, THEM is one of my sci-fi-freak hubby's all-time faves! Still is even after all the ant trauma we just endured.

My DW just reminded me...WD40 works really well.  Actually, I think someone else on this board said that on a WD40 thread.  Spray some as close to where you think their entry point is.  They will disappear.  We've tried it here at home, and it's worked for a longer span of time than anything else we've tried, including Terro.

On a lighter note...I'm so happy for the inventors persistence.  Can you imagine what life would be like if he stopped at WD39?

After a trip, when we do our clean up we use one of these. In all these years we've not had an insect problem and thats alot to say here in the insect capital of the world. It seems like every bug is bigger, badder, and has all thier relatives with them down here. It's clean and leaves no smell or residue, one does the trick.
