On the way home from CO we will need to spend a night somewhere near Kansas City. We would like to be within an hour of the city, and on the western side. Can anyone recommend a good campground for a one-night stand?

Thanks in advance!

There is a COE campground just NE of Topeka (I think it's within an hour of KC) ...  It's called Perry Lake.  We stayed at the Slough Creek Campground a few years ago.  It was nice and clean ~ not many trees, but it was good for a one-nighter.  I believe you can make reservations through reserveamerica.

More information and links here.

Hope this helps.

Hi,  Welcome to the KC area.  I live just north and west of KC and we have a nice little park along the Missouri River.  It is called Riverfront Park.  I don't know the nightly fees but I am sure they are reasonable.

There were some problems with the showers and restrooms but I think the repairs were complete last fall.

There is also a great park just a bit north at Weston Bend State Park.  It is only about 10 minutes away.

Either park will allow you to travel into KC downtown in less than 30 minutes.

Lots to do around here also.  Ft. Leavenworth is directly above the campground area.  We have some nice attractions in the city.  Weston is a popular shopping destination and Parkville also has some interesting venues.

Perry is OK if you want the lake frontage but we have nice things in this area.

Let me know if you need directions or more information.
