Hi, I'm new to Pop up camping and was wondering if it was normal to have the 120V/12V inverter fan running often.  I believe this is used to cool down the inverter unit.  I have an '03 Coleman Mesa.  I didn't think I was drawing much power.  Only the refrigerator was running and some lights in the evening. I heard the fan comming on around the second day of camping.  It would cycle on/off and by the third day, it was mostly on all the time.  Not too concerned, but interested in what others have to say.  Thank you for the input

We have an "00 Starcraft. Our converter fan runs all the time - slower at low draw and faster at high draw. It is a Centurion converter (OEM).

First of all.................WELCOME to PUT!! :D

The device that you are talking about is the "Converter". An "inverter" changes your 12v battery power to 110v household current so that you can "Dry camp" and use your 110v appliances off of your camper battery.

. Your "Converter" changes 110v to 12v to allow you to use the 12v items in your PU while hooked up to city power.

Just semantics....I know. Just wanted to clarify that for you :D .

While you are using 12v items in your PU, during times that you are hooked up to city power, the converter is generating heat while it coverts the 110v to 12v. The fan is running to dissipate that heat.

One thing to check if the converter is running all the time. Is the FRIG running on 12 volt power instead of 120 volt power. Check to see which way the switch is. If you have it on 12 volt the converter has to run to keep the battery charged. If so switch it over to 120 volt.
