We (hopefully) will be purchasing a 2006 pegasus 260XP this week. Our tow vehicle is a 1999 Ford Expedition 4x4 Eddie Bauer 5.4 triton v8. It seems this is enough tow vehicle but resourses tell me that you guys in this forum are quite the experts. Can yall shed some light on this? Dealer says its OK. I dont knopw what rear end I have in the Ford. HELP!

From Trailer Life's 1999 Tow Ratings the 1999 Expedition is as follows: The ratings are based on 5.4 L V-8, 4x4, automatic transmission and towing package.

with 3:31 axle ratio: 6,400 lbs

with 3:73 axle ratio: 7,900 lbs

with 3:73 axle ratio and 17" rims: 7,400 lbs

Can you tow it.....yes, but make sure you look at the Expedition's GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) and the Pagasus which I saw had a GVW of 5,800 lbs for the model you were interested in. You will want to make sure you do not exceed the GCW (Gross Combined Weight). If you have the 3:73 I would say you're in great shape, the 3:31 will work, but you'll it's back there. I would highly recommend a Weight Distribution Hitch (WDH) as Fleetwood is showing a Tongue weight of 442 lbs. More than likely you have a Class 3 hitch which will have a 500 lbs tongue, 5000 lbs capacity when NOT using a WDH. Usually with WDH this should increase to at least 800 lbs on the tongue and at least 8,000 lbs towing. The hitch should have a sticker on it listing these values.

For axle ratio a visit to your local Ford Dealer or check out //www.f150online.com as this is a great source for Ford truck owners. I'm sure someone will have the information you need.

Equalizer is a great WDH, very pleased with mine.

Thanks for the info! As luck would have it the dealer is throwing in a WDH and brake controller in the deal for free! Just to get ride of the 06 models. YEAH!!!
