We just arrived home with our first PU. 2007 Starcraft Centennial 3608 and can't wait to go play!

My Dodge Dakota handled the towing okay except for my gas gauge needle moves quite a bit faster now... I was only getting 17mpg before this, so I am not sure what I am in for as far as gas/mileage.

Question for anyone who can help; My house has a 50amp hookup that was already there when we bought home. Dealer said that you can hook up 30amp PU to 50amp circuit as long as it is 110volt and not 220volt connection. Does anyone know if this is true? I bought a pigtail adapter that has 50amp male / 30amp female? I did plug the adapter in and measured the voltage and it is 125volts, so I am hoping for the best.

We will try setting up the new PU in the driveway tomorrow to dry it out after our 3hour demo at the dealer for setting up and take down (In the rain!).

Anyway we are excited to get started with PU camping and enjoying the great outdoors.

Congrats on the new camper! I know you will enjoy it if you can get away from the crowds and enjoy nature.
AFA the 50A circuit is concerned...that only indicates the max load the circuit will allow. Unless you plug in the camper in "camp driveway" and run the air conditioner and the coffee maker and the microwave, I doubt if you will draw that much current.
I installed a 30 amp circuit in my garage for our pup. I don't have A/C and even if I did, I wouldn't use it camped at home. Basically I use use it for convenience, and when I get the new convertor, will use it for charging as well.

Best wishes! Take that PUPpy and get out of town! :D

I usually camp where there are hookups. If I use the fridge, the AC and the microwave at the same time, will I blow something???  I kinda thought that with camp hookups you had more amp power to run different things. I had a motorhome before and just hooked up and never thought about it (O' naivete, what bliss!!) I just don't want to mess anything up. I thought this whole thing was supposed to be pretty simple ( and it probably is if you take the time in become informed) Thanks!

As for the adapter you are OK. 50 amp 120 volt breakers are quite rare. About 99% of 50 amp circuits are 240 volt and the adapter simply connects one hot leg, ground, and neutral so the 30 amp end is 120 volt.

Sounds like who ever owned the house before had a good sized RV.

If you can't reach that outlet with the cord on the PU make sure you buy a GOOD 30 amp rated 10 gage wire size or lower extension cord.

As an aside, you've got more control than I ever had. 5 PU's 2 TT's, and a park model and rain, shine, or snow we camped out in all of them the night they came home...LOL

Congratulation on the new PU.  Yes you can use the 50 amp outlet with a 50 Male/30 Female adapter. :)
