Just returned late yesterday from 5 days  of         This. I took my mother who has been carving for about 9 yrs.
We stayed in the Aliner on the fairgrounds for the whole 5 days ,  I wouldnn't classify it as camping, parking and sleeping is more like it. (there were 2 other Aliners there!!! :# )  This event is GREAT!  I took workshops each day, had never carved anything more than a fire poker before. The carvers instructing gave their time freely, all workshops were free with a small cost for materials if you needed any.  What a fantastic group of people at this event...It's already penciled in for next year.

I'm now the proud owner of my own Denny carving knife, I think I'm hooked....the workshops I took were a beginning carving lesson. Completed my learning stick and am about half way done with the 8 pointed star.

1 day learning woodburning, completed 1 pic and started a second. (abducted moms burner for a few days to finish it)

The last day was Bark Carving, I love it! looks like I'll be leaving shaving behind at campsites from now on. I'm almost done with my 1st whimsical carving. I'm thinking about combining that and the wood burning.. both have grabbed my attention.

Yes! We have had one of the wood burners for a couple of years... not the cheap soldering iron types though. My wife bought my son one of the soldering types... it was a kit. He was disappointed and i found a real nice one at http://www.woodburning.com/ by Colwood. Make the investment and you won't be disappointed.

I must say, it is alot of fun for a "non artist" to draw something and then burn it into the wood!

I have my eyes on those woodburners, they are nice. Sometimes at the wood carving shows they have specials on them. Till then I'll just swipe Moms when the urge to burn hits, she has a nice one.

Right now I'm trying to learn the wood spirit faces in bark, by trial and error...more error than trial so far LOL
