Hi Kizmit58,
I live in Vermont and think that VT has the best run state campgrounds of any state I've visited. That said, what part of the state are you visiting? What are you into? Touristy traps? Hiking? Paddling? Scenery?

Rte 100 is a great drive for most. I prefer the Norteast kingdom, less people, more wildlife, good hiking, paddling, etc. Green River Reservoir near Morrisville, VT is a great paddle. No motorboats, just canoes & kayaks. Primitive camping.

Cold Hollow Cider Mill, Cabot Creamery , Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, (not their politics!) all great tourist traps to visit.

Email me and I'll send more info that is closer to where you plan to be.

Gone-Camping

Yep, it's a really great place to visit. There is a wonderful place to camp about mid state, it's on Rt. 100-A in Plymouth Notch Vt called Coolidge State Park... nice mountain top campground, camp sites with view, many sites have Lean-to's on them, hot showers and flush toilets. See my review of this campground on my gonecamping.net site...

From there you are in good shape to visit most any place in the state. From Queechee Gorge near White River Junction on the eastern end of Rt 100, to Killington and the suicide six on the western side of Rt 100 (both of these are from the north end of Rt 100-A. From the south end of Rt 100-A you can go up Mt Okemo (can drive to the top this time of year).

Also while there, 1/4 mile from campground entrance is the Calvin Coolidge Homestead, it is a great place to spend the better part of a day. It has the Coolidge 'Summer White House' as well as his preserved home, a huge museum dedicated to the man, and then another museum inside the barn that has a huge assortment of period equipment.... extremely facinating stuff. There is also a working old fashioned Cheese factory on the premisis, and you can buy wheels of the best cheese you'll ever sink your teeth into!!
