I am thinking about purchasing an air conditioner for my pop-up.  I don't know anything about them and any information and input would be greatly appreciated.  I have a 1992 Jayco, 14 foot box.  How much btu would be appropriate and could we install it ourselves.  The pop-up is supposed pre-wired already.  Also, what about drain off from the a/c.  Thank you in advance.

I would recommend the Carrier Air V with the heat option.  The Carrier has oscillating vents, an "air shower" that blows the cold air straight down on you, and most important a slinger wheel that throws the run off back on the compressor so that run off is minimum.  13,500 is the standard size AC, but you could also get the newer 15,000 btu AC units.  Yes you can install them yourself.  It entails cutting a hole in the roof (or removing a vent/fan with a 14 inch opening and putting the AC in that spot), installing the AC unit and running a power cord to your 20 amp outlet.  Good luck on the job.:)

We have the Carrier Air V w/heat-pump. It is very efficient and we love it. The heat-pump option isn't that much more $ and it works better than the heat-strip.

For those that don't understand what a heat-pump is, it is an A/C that has a special valve that switches the A/C to run in reverse, thereby creating heat instead of removing heat. An A/C with heat-strip is basically an A/C unit with a small electric heater inside. Both units are effective but the heat pump is capable of putting out a lot more heat and it doesn't dry out the air like an electric heater does.

What's the ballpark price on these units?  Thanks.
