My daughter is 15 and for 3 yrs. we have been paying for her guitar lessons. We bought her a Fender Strat along with a Marshal amp. This past Christmas I bought her a small PA system with boom mic stand and a nice mic. She is an awesome guitar player & singer as well, and she really impresses people when she plays & sings.

So about a month ago she says,"Daddy is it OK if I join a rock band?" I inquired of who these band members were and they are all kids she goes to H/S with. So after a discussion with my wife we agreed to let her join this band. My wife knows all the 3 boys mothers and they are real nice kids from good families.

So a couple weeks ago Jennifer(#1-DD) asked me if I could give her a ride to band practise and I said sure. She comes down the stairs and said,"Ok Daddy I am ready, let's go before I am late". I asked her,"aren't you bringing your guitar?" and she replied,"no Daddy" so I then asked her,"well why not?" So she then says,"well I don't play guitar in the band". So now I am a little suspicious and wondering Ok what the heck is she really doing with this so-called band.

So my fatherly overprotectiveness kicks into play, and I ask her,"Ok Jen so what do you exactly do in this band anyway?" She then informs me that she is their DRUMMER! I said,"drummer?????" she said, "yes the drummer"  I told her you don't know how to even play drums sweetheart. So she invited me to listen to them practise and OH MY GOD she is a natural drummer! She never missed a beat and was totally into her new gig as a drummer! I haven't seen a woman play drums like that ever in my entire life. Those 4 kids are darn good musicians and they play very well together and they all sing harmony in sync.

So after practise was over we were riding home and I asked her if she will ever play guitar with the group. She told me "no" only because she didn't want to show the guys up because she plays better then them! LOL  She did say one day she wants to start an "all girl band" and this band was good expirience for her. Way to go Jen!

Just when you thought you had your kids figured out!

There is no better way to ruin good taslent than to get hooked into a group of musicians that are not up to your own level.  If she really is a better guitarist than them, and plays drums better than she plays guitar, then she needs to join a better band.

If she's just doing this for fun, then let her have fun...but not too much fun ;)
