Well we made it back alive.....

We had a nice week away at Knoebels Campground in Elysburg, PA. The kids had a great time of course, but what kid wouldn't with all of those rides and games and such. I myself am not a ride person so I spent most of my time at the site just hanging out by myself or down by the pool.

We started out on Sunday morning around 10:30 am with no problems. About an hour into the ride I realized I didn't remember putting the crank handle for the stablizers back into the toolbox. So at the next avalable area we pulled off to check if we had, and it was a good thing we did. Although I did put the handle back into the toolbox, my son noticed that the battery box just didn't look right. Upon further investigation we discovered that the battery had indeed wiggled it's way off of the supports and was just hanging there by nothing more than the strap. We removed the propane tanks and placed the battery back onto the support brakets and tightened everything back down with  a come-along and got back on the road.

About another 30 miles into the trip POP! we blew the passanger side tire on the PU. So now we are out in the middle of the Pennsylvania Turnpike replacing a tire. About 20 minutes later we where back on the road again. The rest of the adventure of getting there was pretty much the norm.

Once we arrived, I started to fill the water tank while the wife got us checked in. While I was filling the tank I noticed a stream of water flowing down the hill behind my PU, so I started to poke around and found that it was coming from the water heater. I had replaced the anoid rod earlier in the week and had forgotten to tighten it up... oops! So another turn with the wrench and we were good to go.

We made are way to the sites (Rhode Island 8 & 10) and discovered that the campers that held the sites before us had packed up the vehicles and left them on the site while they went off to the park to play. So here we are now around 4 pm (check-in was 3pm) and unable to access our sites. So we return to the registration office and told of our little dilema. They offered us a few other sites (mostly tent sites) which where just too small for the PU or were just impossible back into. So we were forced into taking a spot down in front of the registration office with the big rigs and NO shade at all. By this time I was steaming..... I decided that the best way to cool down was to just park the PU and go for a little walk.

I started my little walk around the campground, just looking around and seeing what was going on. As I walked down the Rhode Island strip, I noticed that our recent sites where now free of vehicles. So off to the registration office I went.

We finally got into our original sites (RI-8 & 10) at about 6:30 in the evening. We where all tired out and beat up from the adventure so far. We where able to setup camp (2 tents, 1 screen room and the PU) in record time.

Since we where all exhausted we decided that it was best if we just grab a quick bite to eat and bed down for the night.

The next morning everything was going great we had breakfast, showered and headed for the pool. The pool felt great the weather was perfect, or so we thought. Around 3:30 - 4:00 I noticed the sky started to change to that dreeded blue-gray color, so we started to head back to camp. Not more than 10 minutes back at camp the sky opened up and gave us everything it had.  It was like someone opening up a dam. We had several rivers running through our site and our own private lake! (had flash backs of Killens) After a while the rain stopped the rivers and lake dried up and clean up began. We had to dry out the kids tents since they had lake view properties. Glad I keep the portable heater in the PU. We had the kids dried out in no time at all.

The rest of the week was uneventfull, except for the few occational spiders and such.

We packed up and made it home without any problems.

Even with the few problems we had everyone had a good time.

I am glad the trip turned out well for you.  I had forgotten that you were going to be there this past week or I would have stopped by after work on night.:)
