Help! Crank-Up Lift Arms Broke At Tabs...

Hi,

We're due to leave for a trip in about 4 hours and for some reason our Rockwood XL's lift rods have broken at the top connection. We can see the smallest rod inside the larger one, and my husband can fit it (he's a welder) if we can just figure out how to get it to lift!

Does anyone know a fast way to extract/push-out that smallest rod?

What are the causes of this type of breakage? It was fine when we put it away and we've owned it for about two years now.
