OC Campers

We just got back from our yearly trek to the Eastern Sierras of California.  We were unable to get our favorite sites this year so we tried a new campground (Trumball Lake-Virginia Lakes).  It was set at 9,500 so we were able to get away from the hot Sacramento weather.  What the amazing site was, this particular campground was fairly small (40 sites).  Out of the 40 sites 10 of them were occupied with popups.  I have never seen so many popups (except for a rally) all in one place.  Everytime we looked around, another popup was pulling in.

Another plus about this cg was the sites were heavily shaded which made it hard for the larger rigs to pull in, which also meant the loud generators were few and far between.

Trumbull Lake

Sounded cool.  We spent a month in the same campground living out of our pop-up, and it was fun to watch for the arival of different pop-ups.

Based on my web search, it looks like the scenery there is really spectacular.

Any chance you could re-post this in the West forum (which is in Campground Reviews)?  That way, people looking for a campground (or looking for info on Trumball Lake-Virginia Lakes) can more easily find it.

Did you have a generator with you to charge your battery (s)?

I will do a review for everyone.

Yes, we did have a generator with us but it is a very quiet Honda EU1000.  It worked like a champ.  It was down in the 30's-40's at night so if you want to run your heater you may want a generator.

This cg is just above Lee Vining off Hwy 395 (13 miles south of Bridgeport.  We highly recommend it.  Only draw back was the high altitude.  My 70 year old parents had a hard time breathing and aclimating to the thinner air. (of course if my dad wasn't 100 lbs over weight and didn't smoke he may of had a better time:swear: )

Hello Jacqui,

The family and I spent a week at Willow Springs, (between Bodie and Bridgeport) during the 4th of July.

Virginia and Trumbull Lakes have been my favorites since I was a kid!

I fished Trumbull Lake four out of the eight days we were in the area.  My DW slipped into the muddy tiny stream you need to cross, (where the log is).  And my 5YO DD caught the biggest fish of our trip with her little pink Barbie fishing pole there at the first shore clearing!  It's a great campground and a nice lake.

Glad to hear your trip went well and was very enjoyable!

BTW, we also noticed many more PopUps than usual too!  Maybe it's the new 'hot" thing!! ;)

Oh, air is overrated anyway! :p  If you partake in alcoholic beverages, they go much further at high altitude!   :D

I exactly which log you are talking about Beacher.  Almost slipped on it myself.  Had the best fishing we have ever had.  My dh spent a huge amount of time float tubing in Trumball Lake.  He was having so much fun, he never launched it at Little or Big Virginia Lake.  We could of limited out the first day.

We will definately be going back here.  We love Bridgeport but I think this is our new favorite spot.
