More 2006 trips

I'm thinking of a couple more trips in 2006, just don't want to give up on camping yet this year.  Let's stretch it out a bit longer.  I know a trip is being planned for the first weekend in Nov.  We can't make that, due to weekend committments.

But, how about Veterans Day weekend?  I've got Friday off, and I'm hoping to make a trip to Robert Treman State Park in Ithaca, NY.  They are open until the end of Nov., the only SP in the area to do so.  I haven't brought this up with DW yet, she'll think I'm crazy, but it could be nice.  If we go, we'll be there Thursday thru Sat. nights, coming home on Sun.

We're also contemplating a trip to Charleston SC over Christmas.  We'd be leaving here on Christmas Day and returning home Sat, 12/30.  I've scoped out James Island County Park campground as a reasonable place to go.  I have discussed this one with DW.  She still thinks I'm crazy, even though the weather should be nice there.  It's an 850 mile trip, one way.  My intent is to get to the warm weather.  I figure we'd have to go that far to make it worthwhile.  If anyone else has a closer suggestion, I'd be open.  How's Myrtle Beach, Outer Banks, Virginia Beach or Assateague Island during late December?  I'm looking for coastal locations.  The distance to Charleston is far enough we'd probably have to rest area or Wal Mart overnight on the way, so we'd be staying Tuesday thru Thursday nights.  We'd probably be leaving late Friday afternoon, so may look to "parking lot" it during the day on Friday and do some sightseeing after checkout but before we actually leave.  Once down there, I may not want to leave the warm weather until the absolute last minute.  A closer venue would allow us to camp in a destination campground from Monday through Friday nights.

Anyway, thought I'd throw these out at see if anyone else might be interested.

We have a trip this coming weekend at North South Lake campground in the Catskill Mts or NY.  November 3rd weekend is French Creek SP, in PA, The weekend before Thanksgiving is a trip to Pine Grove KOA/Twin Grove Park.  We are not done camping this year.  I am also thinking about camping this coming weekend, but not sure yet.:)

Tracy - are you coming up to NL this weekend?  I did not get Sunday off, and there is no chance I will, so we're going up there for just Fri night, and leaving like 9 or 10pm Sat nite to come home.  I rigged the camper and I'm gonna use it and get through the season, then Campers Barn can have it all winter if need be.

Rick I would love to, but I can't get there until after 9 PM Friday night, so I wouldn't be able to check in.  It is too far for just one day.  Sorry, but 5 hours of towing is just too far.:(

I completely understand Tracy...  I think 3 hours of towing is my max for a weekend.

Rick the other thing is that I refuse to pay for a 2 nights (min for NY SPs) reservation and only camp one night.  Have a great time at NL.:)

The 2 night minimum does not apply to drive in traffic.  This time of year, you should be able to find open sites at any SP in the state and get one for one night.

Dave there are only 2 sites available and I am not willing to take a chance and tow up there (5 hour drive) and maybe get a site.  It is not worth it to tow that far for just one night and have to be out of the campsite by 1100 am the next morning.  If I could check in after 9 PM Friday night I might do it, but not just for one night. :)

I probably wouldn't do it either, 5 hours is quite a distance just to turn around and come back.  Might be better to driveway camp and invite the group.  Now there's a new idea!!!!  We've got a big driveway here, we'd be able to fit in at least 5 pups along with our camper.  Anyone interested in a weekend rally with free camping?!?!?!?

Just wanted to put out there that there are ways to get around the 2 night minimum imposed by NYS on the parks.
