Anyone here have a stove, heater and/or lamp that uses the disposable LP bottles?  I'd like to get some suggestions on models and usage before making my purchases.  Thanks in advance!

I have a portable heater and a propane skillet that use the one pound propane tanks.  I prefer the white gas/Coleman fuel appliances, but the heater and skillet are not available in white gas so I use the propane.  I also have a one burner stove that runs on butane.  My lantern uses white gas.:)

I use coleman fuel appliances.  The Powerhouse stove is awesome-so much more power that the regular one.  I have a couple of double mantle lanterns for the outside and propane one for inside my camper.

Coleman is all I have used for cooking and lighting for 30 plus years of camping. For safety sake I would not use white Coleman gas, although it is quite a bit cheaper to operate than propane if you have small kids. However, you can buy a spear 20lb bulk tank (the size for a grill) and a propane tree with a hose or two and run a stove, lantern and a heater. As for a heater I would look at the Coleman or a Mr. Heater. With either one I would be sure to buy one with an O2 detector. If you are into Walmart, I would think that all of the above could be bought there. If you do go with white gas, use only Coleman fuel and buy your stove and lantern for dual fuel so that in an emergency you can use gasoline.

I used white gas (a.k.a. Coleman Fuel) for many years.  Never again.

When I started using propane, I wondered why I ever bothered with all that filling, filtering, pumping, stinking gasoline.  I have sold/given away/trashed all of my white gas stuff.  I'll never buy another white gas appliance again.  It may cost a little more, but propane is a lot less bother.

As for a good propane heater, I think the buddy heater by Mr Heater is great.  It warms the camper nicely and is safe for indoor use.

When using L/P, regardless of the application being used, fire should be the biggest concern. Making sure that L/P/appliances are in good working order as well as using good common sense while they are in use. I've seen the aftermath of a couple of RV fires and they sure burn to the ground real fast! One fire was attributed to something going ablaze from the inside cookstove and the other was really unknown although someone was trying to blame a leaking fuel line (never proven). Here in North Carolina awhile back, some guy did himself in when tinkering close by the RV's 20# L/P tank. Again, lots of speculation, but no proof; only the guy possibly knew for sure and he's no longer with us.

I truly believe that today's L/P camping/RV systems are designed safe, but it seems the user is usually the weak link in the system. I know this is hard for some of us to do, but read the instructions FIRST. If no instructions, seek out someone who really does know. Just like posting on this board.

Coleman propane stove, lamp and heater and all use the 1 lb cannister, except I use the stove off of the 20lb tank. Add the coleman oven and you're set.

I also have the Mr. Buddy heater, works great.  It will run on disposable tanks, but I have the 12' hose and run it out the tenting to a 20-lb propane tank outside that I borrow from my BBQ.

Saves on having to use the camper's battery (blower for using the camper's heater).
