Help! I no longer have power to raise the roof when plugged in. (hydraulic roof that lifts) Coleman Niagra 1997,has all the bells and whistles, and I have never had a problem until changing the small circuit breaker boxes(fuses) that connect to the battery. They were rusty and brittle and I went to local auto parts store and replaced them.. This may or may not have anything to do with the problem, but I don't recall having a problem before. If I am connected to a fully charged battery alone I can raise it, otherwise I can't...Any suggestions??? Thanks for any help......

Welcome to PUT.  Sorry you are having a problem with your lift system.  Could you have put the battery leads on backward?  The black wire with the circuit breaker on it (that you replaced) goes to the positive battery post and the white wire goes to the neg post on the battery.  Could the new circuit breaker be bad?  Is it the correct size?  I know the lift system uses a lot of power, maybe it is tripping the circuit breaker.  Does the system work when the PU is plugged in?  Could a 12 volt fuse have blown?  I am offering a lot of guesses.  Let us know if more and hopefully someone can help you.

Thanks for responding. No, the top will not raise when plugged in..Yes, the fuses,(breakers) are the correct size, no bad fuses.....I will check the connections to the battery. I guess it is possible that they are backwards. My husband says this was happening before we replaced the fuses, so maybe in the battery connections. I am going to have the battery tested as well, but why can't I raise the top when plugged  in??? Any idea?? Thanks...

A guess as well, is it possible that the 120 V to 12V circuit isn't powered?  I don't know if there is an interlock that keeps the battery from being used if the converter senses AC being supplied or not.

I thought about something like this too.

Also, check your converter. Some have a 3-way rocker switch: Battery, Off, Converter.

Do any of your 12v circuits (lights, water pump etc) work while you are "plugged in"?

Yes,everything else works, of course when the sink is down the power is off, but the outside light works. There are two spaces on the bottom of the breaker box minus fuses, always been that way, and I guess I have never questioned what they are for(duh!)but there are only two breakers and both are up and not tripped. Indeed the wires were crossed on the battery and when I put a charge on the battery the top powered right up. I am going out now to see if the battery still is holding a charge and to make sure that I can raise the top because I am going to the beach Thursday-Sunday and must be able to raise the top!!! Thanks for all of your help. will keep you posted.

If the battery wires were reversed, then the 12 volt fuses are probably blown.  Check the 12 volt fuses and make sure they are ok.  If they are blown, the converter can't convert AC power to DC power.  I hope you get it fixed in time for your trip.:)
