Minneapolis is the place for agoraphobiacs

If you are an agoraphobiac, Minneapolis may be the ideal place for you.  It depends on the type of agoraphobia you have.

With one type of agoraphobia, the victim is afraid to be outside their own space - their home, apartment, or even a single room.  In a less agressive form of agoraphobia, the sufferer is afraid of being outdoors.  It's this second type that Minneapolis seems designed to support.

Minneapolis has either the largest or the second largest skyway system (Wiki article) in the world (depending on how you measure it).  Either way you measure it, St. Paul's skyway is third.  I am not very familiar with the St. Paul skyway, having seen only a few blocks of it from the insisde.

The Mineapolis Skyway System (PDF map) connects nearly all of the major downtown buildings at the second floor (there are two additional skyways at the 4th floor).  No need to deal with weather (it does get to -25

Thinking can be entertaining... :book: to me, more entertaining than a dancing banana! :-() Had I not thought of it, many people here would never have heard of agoraphobia    or the Minneapolis/St. Paul skyways.  :o

Austin (definitely not an agoraphobiac)

Are you saying you can't live a full life without them?  :eyecrazy:

I should also add...

To a large part, all Minnesotans become somewhat agoraphobic in the winter, which is why the skyway system exists in the first place, except when it's time for the winter toys (ice fishing house, snowmobile, etc.)

AB, I've spent time in MN in the winter.  My Ex and her family are from "up north".  Being that I have the thin blood of a PA resident, I LOVED the skyways when we would visit the city in the winter.  Great way to stay out of the cold, snow, and slush.  Plus you don't have to put on 100 lbs of gear to walk down the block LOL

CampDirt

Can we get one of those skyways here in Denver?  :W
It's taking way too long to build our lightrails (similar to LA).  The problem is there are no connecting lightrails to get from one line to another, except near downtown.  I still have to take a slow bus to get from one area to another in the Denver metro area.

Your skyway definitely needs a movie theatre.  I practically live at the movies next door to where I work when the roads are so slushy I can't get home in rush hour (I wait til traffic clears).

Minnesotans don't even slow down for slush, but we also very seldom have it.  It's too cold for there to be a lot of slush.

Oh, and there is a movie theatre (I think 10 screens) and a number of live theaters.

The only place I've ever seen that has valet parking at a bowling alley....

Update: I was not about to go looking for this, but the other day while PJay was driving I did notice a place.  I don't think it connects directly to the skyway, but it would only require going out one door and in another at street level.

PJay came up with one thing...it would be difficult to have a pet if you lived in the Skyway.  Even an indoor cat would be a problem because without a vet, one could not get necessary shots.

Even fish would be a problem; we know of no fish store with Skyway access.

This is the first real kink (other than not camping) in living one's entire life in the Skyway.
