Would a Truck Tent be consider a pop or would it be consider a regular tent?  I'm looking at getting one and was woundering if there worth the investment.  I was also looking at soft top camper tops, but I wanted to get the best bang for my buck.

thanks in advanced.

Technically, it is a regular tent. But I don't think it matters, really, in the camping world, unless you are going into bear areas where hard sides are the requirement.

A true truck tent may offer a floor, but something like a Softopper (http://www.softopper.com/) is a neat option. Nearly 3 years ago, I begged my DW :D to let me have one, but we were always "getting ready to get another truck", according to her. Still driving that same truck. :D I did extensive research and found some people that actually use one, and they love it. It is probably worth the 500 or 600 bucks, as that is cheaper than the hard tops, and easier to move/remove.

Personally, I'd stay away from the Can-Back toppers. Not sure if the company is still in business, but I've heard numerous times that they are unreachable, and it takes weeks to months to get your order.

If you are looking for a place in a campground, you may not be able to use a "tent" site.  Some "tent" sites are walk in sites where you park your car in one spot and then carry your stuff back into the campsite.:)

OK.... let's see where to start.
My old next door neighbor had a truck tent....  his whiskey froze when he went camping in December! He had to defrost it in the campfire.  To me that is NOT a pop up.I t's nothing more than a tent in the back of a  truck. If you don't want to tow & You want bang for the buck get the best Pop Up camper you can for the same dollar and an electric heater. With the tent on the truck you are stuck taking camp to the store with you if need be.

Gimme a seperate trailer any day.

The same is true for a Class C.  PJay calls it a move up.  I say it's a step towards never leaving the campsite.
