Sink faucet not working

Have a '93 fleetwood sequoia.  The sink faucet (pump handle) isn't working.  This is one of the few things I didn't really check when we bought it (forgive me though...it's our first pu and we were VERY excited)..

I'm not sure if it's just user error (other campers I've been in with friends had a kitchen sink type faucet not the pump kind).  I've read the manual which is a little vague.
So I don't know if it's me...or the faucet.

Any help is appreciated.

The normal reason for a "Hand pump" type faucet not to work is because air is getting in the line somewhere. It could be merely a dry seal in the pump or a crack in the hose between the tank and the pump.

Those pumps are usually pretty easy to take out. You might want to take it out, put the intake fitting in a bowl of water and pump the handle. If it works there, it's a crack in the line, a loose hose clamp or some other open airway.

You might want to just try immersing the entire pump in a basin of water and letting it soak over night. If the seals are dried out, that may help. Also, a couple drops of vegetable oil in the intake of the pump might work.

Those water fixture/hand pump devices were pretty much standard fare a few years back and were the same on my previous '96 Coleman and with the current '99 Starcraft. Had to make certain the connections for the input hose was tight and that the hose itself was not cracked, otherwise would not work properly.

Had to replace the one on the Starcraft as it froze and cracked while laid up for the winter ... I had'nt got all the water out of the lines!  The replacement fixture I bought from Starcraft was identical and the manufacturer name was ~

They say on their literature that they also make a repair kit (#199-9) for the unit.

Appreciate it.

Now...again forgive me I'm new at this!   :p

If I were to run a straight line from the water hookup to the sink and put my own faucet in (with a pressure regulator) how would that setup work?  Obviously keeping the drain going to the same location as it is already.  I know how to do this as I've replaced all of the plumbing from the walls out in my house...but is it feasible or am I better off trying to fix the current stock setup?

Keep in mind that the orginal hand pump/water fixture that came with the camper allows you to:

(1) Pump water to the sink from the onboard water tank

(2) To simply by-pass the on board water tank when you hook-up with a municipal water supply at a campground - here you would press down on the water fixture handle rather than using a pump action with it.

So my question to you is, are you always going to be at campgrounds that offer water hook-ups or might you every now and again wander off into the boonies where you'll have to be self sufficient?  There are a couple three different ways to skin a cat here, trying to pin you down as to what might be your best way to go.  Speaking strickly for myself and for what I do, I like the set-up just as it is. When I get to a C/G, rather there's hook-ups or not, for the most part I'll be using water at the picnic table and I have one of those blue 7/gal water containers (from Wal-Mart) that I set-up right there for cooking, dish washing and such.

I believe the majority of places we'll go will be with water hookup.  We actually have four 6 gallon water containers...1-2 of which that go with us most of the time regardless of what facilities will be present.  I hadn't put 2+2 together yet on using them for dishes etc if the need arose (duh on my part!  LOL)

To answer your original question ... yes, you can remover the hand pump fixture and the lines running to it and replace with a regular water fixture and a direct line running from the the camper water intake to the sink. Just make sure you have some needed slack in the new water line for when your closing up for road travel.
