I purchased a usedc pop-up about ten years old, mechanically in is in good shape.  The mattresses are killing me.  When we go camping I have to put two together because they are so bad.  I like to get some ideas, Thanks, Shbjr

WELCOME to PUT!!!!

2" of memory foam on top of an air-bed mattress and you'll think you died and went to heaven. You'd end up with a 6" mattress for sleeping and a 2" mattress for storage when popped down.

What size bed does your pop-up have and what size air mattress do you have?
We had a popup with a "king" mattress and we used two twin air mattresses and slept "feet in" to the popup. This way no one had to crawl over another in the middle of the night and each air mattress could be adjusted for individual comfort. We laid a peice of indoor/outdoor carpetting over the plywood base to diminish the chances of a splinter popping a mattress. This was the most comfortable bed we ever had.

That's basically what we sleep on at home. We have a SelectComfort (sleep number) bed. It's basically just an air-bed with memory foam on top.

Save yourself about $2500 by making it yourself for about $200 (including the memory foam). You don't need the foam on the sides (as in this picture). That way, you can deflate it for popping down.

If you use twin mattresses, I would suggest making a bag out of canvas, that will contain them while fully inflated. That way they won't separate. That would also protect the mattresses.

Wavery-

Side note here...Surprised you bought one of those SelectComfort beds.  We ordered one ourselves a few years ago.   Sent it back almost immediately.  We thought it was WWWWWWAAAAAYYYYYYYY overpriced for what you got.   Your suggestion to make your own is about the only way to go on it, as far as I'm concerned.

(We ended up buying a Simmons mattress set instead for half the cost of the SelectComfort and love it.)

I bought it on eBay for $800 (brand new). The person that listed it lived about 2 miles from me, in Beverly Hills and the guy listed it for "Local pick-up only".  :D

I love eBay  :-() .

After sleeping on our regular camper mattress for 3 years, and not having any problems, we suddenly started having hip and shoulder problems. We bought a $15 foam topper (not the memory foam) and love it! We have the memory foam at home. The foam topper is a good option if $$ is an issue.
