What a great start to the day...

I had a great commute to work this morning.  I usually have to wait in a line to turn left onto Minnesota's Highway 65 in Ham Lake (picture an interstate with occasional stoplights and crossovers).  But all I had to to was wait for one vehicle to turn left at the median (she was turning into my street - and it turned out to be DW PJay returning from the local convenience store).

I then was able to maintain the speed limit (or close to it) for nine miles.  This stretch of road has at least 11 stoplights, (they are NOT sequenced to each other) and I went through every one of them at the speed limit (SL varies from 55 to 65 MPH).  Going through a green light at 65 MPH during morning rush is a thrill, but doing it again and again and again...

I turned on to Anoka County Road 10 (no light, just a ramp) and there is no traffic to merge with.  Then it's 55 through the 12th green light of the morning.  Alas, the 13th light stopped me, a left red arrow turning into the shopping plaza with the bus depot.  I was more than 15 minutes early.

One more nice thing - the bus's card reader was broken, and the driver was letting everyone ride for free (they are supposed to make you pay cash).

Boy, what a fast commute!  I was 15 minutes late due to the snow.  Up to 6" already here in south Aurora, expecting some more tonight and Saturday.  POWDER DAY at the ski resorts!!! :-()

Good sequence of light hits.

I drive 46 miles to work and it takes me 45 minutes and I only have two traffic lights to deal with.

So Austin,
Enjoying the cold air? I was working outside all day in it on Thursday and will do rest of this weekend (letter carrier).

A few years ago, I came home from work "happy".  I had made it 27 miles through 21 lights, and never stopped.  About 15 miles was on the freeway.

Fastest commute I ever had. Wheeeeee....

I did not let my euphoria diminish by the minor fact that it was 2:30am (uh, very long day, but I was a contractor at the time!) and thus no traffic...

I've been a contractor since 1994, and had some of those days.  Worst one (about 10 months ago) was a major upgrade/install that failed...and failed...and failed.  We gave up and decided to back out at about 3 AM, and completed the restore at 5:15 AM.  Inbound traffic was just starting to pick up.

It turned out that the dba (who was quite full of himself) had been running our 10 carefully sequenced database conversion scripts simultaneously instead of sequentially.  After six years with the company, he was replaced soon afterwards.

The thing that made it worse was that when I got home, I could not sleep.  I was back at the office at about 10 AM.

About three weeks ago, we had another failed install.  Started at 8PM, should ahve taken 15 minutes.  But they would not let us test with copies of real data (twisted interpretation of HIPPA), so OF COURSE it didn't work.  I had previously drawn a line in the sand at 10:30 PM, claiming that the last bus was at 10:45.  Waited for the bus with the crazies in downtown Minneapolis.

I'm too old for this stuff.  I need a new career.

I hate long commutes. I manage a 4 story apt building. I used to live on the 4th floor and had to take the elevator to my office on the 1st floor. About 3 years ago, the tenant next to my office moved out. I moved into that apt and put a door from my dining-room into my office. Now I have a manageable commute. :sombraro:

How do you feel about the change from mass transit (elevator) to personal transportation (walking)?  How do you deal with the commuting obstruction (closed door)?   :D
